Agree 100%, hence my suggestion for the drop shot rig to be on the spinning rod.

A secret at Clan to trigger the smallie bite is a 1/8 oz shacky head with a fat albert grub on the back end. Knock it around the off shore structure or river lines and you'll have fun for hours.

A jighead with a tiny curly tail or cut tail worm is a nice presentation as it looks like a worm feeding on the bottom with it's tail in the air.

I could swear that tackle manufacturers have a game on a friday afternoon....

They develope a new bait, then the boss says to them they must all think of a name for the new bait, write it down and pop it into a hat. Then at 3pm on a friday afternoon when they are sitting in the company bar having a few beers, the boss pulls a name out the hat and this is what the new bait is called.

I guess this is how we end up with funny names for baits, like a Yo Mama!, a wopper thlopper, craw dad, pit boss, Ztoo, War Eagle etc. I mean, who ever decided that dark blue with blue flake needs to be called Junebug colour? And where does Arkansas Shiner have anything to do with olive green and pearl colours? And where does a fighting frog look anything A) like a frog, and B) like something that fights? 

What other funny names are out there?

Now I have not been completely idle during winter. 

I have spent hours at a swimming pool having a Creepy Crawly chase my lures. I have tossed Carolina's, Texas and dropshot rigs with every soft bait that I have. Every one of my crank baits have done there duty in the pool.  My own personal favorite is the dropshot. I am just hoping that the bass prefer it too.

I have done some bank angling. Not with the sole purpose of trying to catch bass, but to get my cast accurate and to eliminate the fear of snagging on obstacles. Hard to believe, but this is a real fear when migrating from bank angling to bass angling.

Then I must share that I have caught a few bass between 250 and 500 grams this winter, but I cheated. I was actually targeting Kurper and would hook 3 to 4 worms on a single hook under a float. I let the hook hang 20 cm under the surface and this way got myself a couple of bass. My wife cried foul, so I replaced the worms with artificial worms and had the same success. She still refuses to write them up as official catches though. My argument is that it should count as long as I never used a gill net, but she is the keeper of the records so I guess she wins.

I am still battling with my casting though. At home, I get great direction as well as distance. As soon as I am on the boat, I am all over the place. No fear though, summer is approaching rapidly and I will get enough practice. What I am really trying to do is to cast underhand, similar to holding a golf club in one hand. I so dearly want to be able to skip my lure across the surface of the water but am having very little luck at the moment.

I promised myself that I would not have more than three rods on the boat as I would just confuse myself. But alas I am up to six rods now. My arsenal has increased to include spinners, so I have a Texas, a Carolina setup, a Dropshot setup, a Weightless setup, a Spinner rod and a Mojo setup.

I think that I am ready for the Summer. I can categorically state that if I do not catch a decent Bass this season, there simple are non to catch. If anyone wants to hook a decent Bass on to my line when I am not looking, it would also be deemed as acceptable.

I must say, i admire your dedication and prep work. My winter so far has been in hibernation except for 1 outing.

Welcome back Walter. My Winter consisted of an outing to Tzaneen (all the way from da Cape)....just yp bump in to JfZ a few times...to take part in the annual SABAA InterProvs that was hosted there.

Condolences for the JfZ bit, but at least you went back to the Cape and we are stuck with him here.

I hear that the Cape guys where walking ankle deep in the dams catching bass by their dorsal fins.

Up here though, we do have modern technology like blueteeth in our cabby's to prevent the blue badges from asking for hand outs.
