Proposed WC traffic fine increase

Western Cape minister for Transport and Public Works, Donald Grant has proposed the following list of increased traffic fines

• Falling to stop on demand of a traffic officer R500 to R1500
• No driving licence - R500 to R1500, HEAVY R2500
• No PrDP - R2500, and with passengers R3000
• Unroadworthy vehicles - R1000 to R3000
• Unroadworthy bus or minibus - R1000 to R3000
• Contrary to discontinue notices - R3500
• Operator safety issues - R3000
• Inconsiderate driving - R1000 to R2500
• Scholar stop - R500 to R3000
• Level crossing - R500 to R3000
• Normal stop - R500 to R1500, with PrDP R3000
• Bus and minibus stop - R500 to R1500
• Disregarding bus/minibus lane - R500 to R1500
• No overtaking line - R1000 to R2500 and PrDP R3500
• Skipping traffic lights - R1000 to R2000 and R2500 for PrDP
• Service brakes - R500 to R2500 PrDP

According to the department, offences for overloaded vehicles changed from kilogram categories to a percent rating - If vehicles are over the 14% to 33% threshold, fines will range from R750 - R5000 (from R250 and R2500).

Cut-off for NO AG (admission of guilt) for buses and minibuses was 150km/h reduced to 134km/h and R1500 fine.

According to the department:“The threat of these fines will no doubt deter errant motorists from engaging in irresponsible and dangerous behaviour on our roads.”


Here in the Eastern Cape, one can still get out of a fine by observing the officer's body language and slipping him a fifty - especially if its on a Friday afternoon :eusa_shhh:

Hey man - when you get pulled over on a Friday afternoon in the middle of the Transkei, R50 is worth every cent!
Make sure you have a few fifties on you before you leave....

And it's not corruption - it's expedited justice!

So if I have a few fifty zols rolled up in my ciggie box and offer him or her (have you seen the size of some of these "fit" mamas) a cigarette on a Fri afternoon, then that would be called expedited justice........??

These fines are still way too low.

By the way, if you complain about the state of this country and corruption and then pay bribes to the police you are a hypocrite.

I never wrote that I have personally offered a bribe.
But I have watched it happen several times.
