Hi all, in the process of purchasing my first boat and looking for some info!

1. Tow-bar ( 2013 BMW 120D ) Best quote so far is R4300. Is this reasonable?

2. Previous owner is keeping his battery charger. What brand, cost etc?

3. Where do I find a cover for the boat? It will stay outside during winterrrr!

4. I need to get life-jackets ( preferably the compact ones not the orange beasts! )

5. I'm gonna redo the carpets. What carpet, under-foam, where, cost etc?

Any help will be most appreciated!

Rory, you don't need a life jacket just a flotation aid. check out the Sondor website for info on carpeting - Nav can provide more info here.
Battery charger is dependant on the batteries you will be using......
Good luck.

Hi Rory

I got my carpets from Kehls:

http://www.kehls.co.za/

Sondor foam (5mm) to put under carpets. Nice and soft underfoot for long days on the water and protects your carpets in the long run. .

http://www.sondor.co.za/

Best covers I have seen are from Coverworks (also a member on this site) but they are Gauteng based.

You are welcome to give me a shout as Floatie and I I went through this exercise just over a year ago and can share some lessons learnt. I think I have a sheet of Sondor foam left over from my job if you would like to check it out

I went for Zero jackets. The auto inflate ones are nice but a lot more pricey. I believe there as some jackets on special with one of the local boating companies (Trefco) that are having a closing down sale but they are not the auto inflate type. They are similar to the Zero ones.

I have an AutoLogic battery charger which has given me good service. I got it with my boat 4 years ago. CTEK ones are very highly rated but a bit pricey as well.

Cannot help you on the tow bar. Car might take a bit of strain on difficult slipways with too low a gradient or when the dams are low and slipway is out of the water.

Sondor Foam (SVA 45 Grey).I went for the 6mm thick,just a little more comfy underfoot.This comes from Sondor At R149-00 per 2m x 1m sheet.Contact Chris on 021-9599400
Glue and carpet comes from Kehls,as Nav said.Carpet is Smithy Auto carpet,1,785 m wide and you buy per running meter at R84-00 per meter. The glue that they sell is good stuff, and I use a lot of glue. They have a spraying grade of contact glue which is very thin, nice for brushing onto the deck, the foam and the carpet.
Trefco is having a sale on right now and is selling really nice bass fishing life jackets call Don on 021 9452490.
Coverworx are great with covers...tell them what hull and they do the rest.
CTech charger, absolutely brilliant, can recondition your battery every now and again to rejuvinate it...costs around R2795-00 for the mxs-7 model.Available from me !
Tow bar...just make sure it is SABS approved and is wired to SABS specs.
Hope this will help.
