KWT Bassmasters - club report: Binfield Park

Thirteen of the King Williams Town Bassmasters members headed off to Binfield Park in search of club championship points, an elusive lunker bass and possibly, a chance to pre-fish ahead of next month’s Border Bassmasters Inter-club competition.

The boats were in the water, the firewood was offloaded and the anticipation was high.

The fishing was super-tough and the bites were few and far between, except for the wily old(ish) fox, Peter Hein, who managed the only bag limit for the weekend with 3 fish exceeding 1kg and his heaviest being 1.560kg.
Heaviest fish of the day swam into the hook hanging from Peter Brown’s rod and weighed in a very respectable 1.765kg.
The manne came off the water to see that Peter Brown’s portable DSTV setup was working well and summarily tuned into the rugby.


Somebody kept putting wood on the fire and was duly ridiculed for making smoke and upsetting the rugby supporters

Sunday morning dawn broke with not a breath of wind and the manne were back on the water, eager to put right what the Saturday’s weigh-sheet suggested of their fish catching skills!

Well, the dam and its fish population had the last laugh, with many of the guys opting to get out of the sun early and call it a day.
Mike Mettam weighed in this 1.655 kg fish

And the wily old(ish) fox was back at it again with this 2.265kg horse that gives him the lead in the race for the heaviest largemouth trophy

Ja man, many of the guys blanked on either Saturday or Sunday
Some blanked on both days!!

The water is very clean. The weed is dying off with the approaching winter.

But I'm sure Pete had his gill net on deck :blue-razz:

A great report and well done to you on a 3rd for the weekend.Fished with Mike for a change as my son had sport on Saturday. Still trying to figure out why the fishing was so poor and the weather was to perfect. Riprap did you okes also find the fishing poor at certain times ? Saturday I caught my 5 fish between 13h15 and 14h15, then lockjaw, nothing until 17h45 and caught another which I tossed. Sunday 1 small fish by 07h00 and then again 2 at 10h45 which included the 2.265. Maybe a must change my name to Wilyoldish fox, Silver Fox or Termite.

Fishing was tuff and the weather perfect, dont know what went wrong!!
Looks like Peter already had bag before we even got to the dam already.Next time im taking leave for the Saterday so we can start at 13,00. Now i know where he fishes so it can be a drag race to that spot hahahaha :blue-biggrin:

Was gud fun watching the rugby and just chilling with the manne. Would of been better if the Cheetas won the rugby... Go Vrystaat!!!

How to let a big bass go!

Little Kyan (6), right wanted a photo of him holding a big bass before letting it go.


However, Tiaan, also wanted a big fish photo


The hawg decided, enough of this, spot you dudes later... and gave a mighty jump.
The laaities just stood there looking in the water


Peter was laughing too much to get a stable photo!
