While off the shelf flies work, the enjoyment of catching a fish on a fly you have made yourself is priceless. Each to his own, I suppose!

Catching fish is my passion, I dont see anyone trying to carve up a bit of balsa wood to make their own cranks emm I think that would be easier than tying flies. I also enjoy my boat but that don't mean I can build one or would even enjoy trying.

Someone, at sometime, somewhere, must have carved up his own piece of balsa wood to make himself a crank.....fishing and fly fishing (including fly tying) is my passion. :lol:

I have carved out several poppers from pine, one even got painted and thrown into the dam on the end of my line :lol:

What a good idea, did they actually work? And if so, what did you catch?

I only caught 1 small bass on my homemade popper, and have lost it when we moved house (or someone took it)

Maybe we should start a course on these things, between your poppers and my flies...who knows!!! :wink:

The biggest hassle with the popper was finding screw in eyes small enough, to hold the hooks to the lure.
