Frustrated!

I have recently updated to MWeb ADSL and am becoming increasingly aggro with how SLOW browsing bfsa has become. It take up to a minute at time just opening a new page or after posting a reply Rof and BM please HELP before I go Mad and smash something
Im using Microsoft Vista Business. At one stage I contacted Tech Assistance and they gave me a website to do a check I wrote it down somewhere, The results were SLOW Please give me some pointers on what to Do :blue-evil:

change to do broadband...if you really want to get mad...when you phone the call centre they have a 20 minute que...the download time for me on this site is also slow...in fact lately everthing has been slow.

There can be a number of reasons for the kak performance… the MWEB bandwidth may suck but this shouldn’t be… but it’s so long since I was an ISP I’m no longer in touch with which ISP is better or worse. It could also be a phone line problem and this is the one I’m always wary of because it affects performance more than anything else. Is your phone line clear with no crackling?

Hi Rob YES I do have crackling on the line when talking to someone with internet on. This is worse than the OLD darn Dial up Line that I had :blue-mad:

If you are using the cheapest ADSL connection (384K), you should be getting speed around 350K down and 100K up.

I've noticed whenever my line crackles the internet is a dog, give Telkom a call and lodge a fault report. If you are lucky you will wait in queue on the phone for 1hr 45min at 1am in the morning :blue-evil:

Have you got your filters in place on your phone lines, if you don't have them fitted your line will do funny things everytime you are using the net.

This site is definately slow though, Rob isn't this site hosted overseas, that will probably have something to do with it.

Crackling on the line will KILL any speed… phone Telkom and report a fault. Life with a crackle on a ADSL line isn’t worth living!

i get 322 kbps...40.3 kb/sec download speed
98 kbps ...12.3 kb/sec upload speed
this ia with and adsl talkom line directly connected not wireless.

Yip it will have a marginal difference but the problem is 98% the crackle… it absolutely drives the ADSL modem into a frenzy trying to correct errors.

Sometime the routes from SA to BFSA are a little slow but it hasn’t really been a major problem from some time… there were odd times last night it did slow a bit yes.

Not sure why it may be so slow for you? I have some problems at home sometimes but that is my line. At work I never have a problem? Sometimes the site is a little slow but that can also be a result in the Moon phase box loading and Robs weather and so on... the are pulled from other sites and do sometimes slow down BFSA especially if they are having problems and the site struggles to pull the data across.

It is his line BM… he had crackling… that kills ADSL and any other modem.

I also have periodic problems with the site loading a bit slow, I've got used to it though, it's worth it :blue-biggrin: My ADSL line is a 4MB (supposedly), I also have a problem on my Vodacom 3G connection which is allegedly a 3.8MB line. It's been ok recently though, it seems to come and go, I guess that maybe the feeds from external sites could be the cause.

One thing i did notice about this forum is that if you are using IE it chows your bandwidth allocation, because for some reason the slideshow doesnt cache the images or if it does it ignores the fact and every time you return it re downloads them. I used netlimiter to monitor this. I had a look at the script and there are 90 images in that slideshow and sometimes i open two or three BFSA tabs so it can get a bit hectic.

It could be just my machine or my version of IE and if I use firefox there are no issues. Im running windows vista business, IE version 7.0.6000.16757

It would no doubt affect this sites bandwidth although it sits overseas where bandwidth is dirt cheap but woulds be interesting to see how much bandwith the slideshow is generating.

I must say i cant wait till the new cable network arrives cause then bandwidth should become much cheaper with faster speeds! but im sure they will find some way to rip us off!
