Life Jacket!!

I just got this email from Steve Engelbrecht ..

If you could be so kind as to let people know again that a tragedy happened on Tzaneen Dam on 27 June 2007 whereby a fellow angler, not a Bassmaster, but angler nonetheless was fishing on the dam and for reasons unknown to anybody, whilst fishing on his own he was thrown out of his boat. He was driving a Cathedral Hull boat with a 50 horse power Yamaha.

Speculation is that the steering cables came loose. As a result we are assuming that he lost control over the boat. He was seen from the side, a distance away, swimming towards his boat and then went under.

We spent a lot of time this weekend with police divers going back and forth with depth finders, going up and down the dam trying to find him. The anxiety that was met by the family on the side is not a pleasant thing at all and nobody could rest until a body had been found. The police divers gave up after three days and we all had to wait for the inevitable. But anyway, I?m led to believe that his body was found yesterday (2 July 2007) at about 06:30 ? five days after the event.

Watching the immediate family on the dam with the boats and the anxiety involved because the victim never wore a life jacket or a kill switch which could have saved his life, is not pleasant. Even if he had died from a heart attack, they would have been able to find his body immediately which would have meant a lot less anxiety to the family.

Please let people know what this does to family members and Bassmasters and how important the use of a life jacket and kill switch is even whilst fishing for pleasure and especially when fishing on your own.

IT JUST MAKES A LOT OF SENSE.

Yip accidents do happen and most of us never wear our life jackets unless it?s a compo? the only person I have seen who wears his life jacket religiously is Drew? I guess he had had lessons in the past.

I will wear mine from now on? I just wish I could buy a damn Mustard Life Jacket in SA! :-(

Ok maybe I should get one of the mustard life jackets , Rob are you still getting one from overseas , if so I would like to get one !!

It is really sad to read something like this, I am also guilty when it comes to not wearing a life jacket, but at least I always have my kill switch string around the arm when my main motor is running.

Nope Warren... I have tried but there is a problem shipping them to SA they need to go by sea and that's just too difficult ot organise.

I did phone them V.Lamb but they don't have the one I'm after. :-(

King Dinger... remember I told you Peeps got his from Rod and Marine.... Well I went to Jhb a couple of weeks back and the ones he has are BPS, look exactly like the Mustang and either the BPS one is made by Mustang or the Mustang one is made by BPS... Either way, the one you are after and the BPS are made by the same people.... 8O :-? :roll:

Might just be worth your while to have a look at it.... He is just as full of k@k when buying his boating stuff and he says, in his words "They look BEF....K!!!!" He is in other words, very happy with his new life jackets.... Wink

I have the same sentiments as the rest of our online buddies, that it is very very sad hearing of accidents like this.... Especially when it could possibly have been avoided.... :-(

People get tooo complaiscent and think they have done it so many times that it will never happen to them.....

Yip this is sad and it can happen to any one of us. I'm one of the guilty ones that only wear it in compos. I must get into the habbit of wearing mine all the time!

the problem lies with the cartridge on those jackets, cannot go on a plane, they do look cool and must be very comfy to wear

yeah it comes with tube im going to load some to my shipment
20 pcs
well only comes with sea so it takes 2~3 weeks and troling motors
