So - you guys have the Senior Nationals on the Vaal River in two months time.......

For those of you who haven't seen the video clips doing the rounds - this seems to be what is waiting for you......

Yup, its a sad state of affairs. 

From what I can work out, is that there is a sewerage works just east of Lenasia, which is at the head/source of the klip river. Every time it rains and the sewerage works overflows, it heads off down the kilp into the vaal. 

Hopefully by the time the Nats arrive, the waste will be less...

Yes, at the casino. 

But, your view is slightly out of proportion. 

There is a problem - yes. But its been happening for many years. The biggest area affected is the loch vaal area which is fed by the Rietspruit. The loch vaal forms a sort of a natural lake area and it only really gets "cleaned" when they open up the barrage properly and this creates a draw effect. 

Upriver where the venue is being held, is no more worse than it has been for the past few years. 

And lets be honest, CB is known for taking things out of proportion. Its not to say that they are wrong and incorrect, but more along the lines of their reports are somewhat skewed occasionally. 

Downstream of the barrage leading towards Potch is, what I understand, more so of a problem

My wife and I went bobbing about on the river around Three rivers which is a few clicks up from the Emerald and although the water appeared decent, it left a bath ring on the side of the boat.
Two weeks ago we went to a spot called Fischgat which is much closer to the dam wall and the water quality was not bad there either. (A few nice fish that may not be named caught there )

Then in stark contrast, a colleague went fishing at a place called Renovaal (Where the Renoster river meets the Vaal) downstream and close to Klerksdorp last weekend and could not fish there due to the condition of the river.
He complained about having to reel his line in through a rag due to the brown scum build up on the line.
He mentioned that vast amounts of dead fish came floating past.

It would seem that Bloemhof will be getting some poor quality water after our first rains.

Very sad indeed.

Sadly down stream of the barrage will be the worst affected... Untill February when the floods start

I saw there were 2 fish over 2kgs caught yesterday....

There were a few weighed around the 2kg mark. Biggest was 2.22

Sadly nothing bigger...
