Hi guys since I was last here I have gone to Shongweni dam and blanked. But aside from that I'm hooked ( no pun intended) on bass fishing. Now for the the advice I need. Can I use a baitcaster reel on my normal spinning rod? I want to upgrade and need advice on this. Thanks.

Hi Ryan95

You will notice that the first eye on a spinning rod (closest to reel) is much bigger than the first eye on a baitcaster (casting) rod. Baitcaster has the little pistol grip as well so that you can hold the rod firmly when casting one handed.

You will need to get a casting rod for a baitcaster.

Hey Ryan. Try get a combo, there are many matched specials around. Nothing wrong with a Sellus and Caenan reel to start with for under R1K.

That's the only way to catch at Shongweni. I'm sure they even hire out canoes and head towards the wall and across to the reeds and you will catch.

Baitcasters are a very expensive route for very little budget. I would rather stick with spinning setup and concentrate on getting your feet wet with a kickboat.

The more I learn about fishing the more I realise
how much more I have to learn about fishing.
