PB Smallie on Fly...

Managed to zap my PB smallie and on fly.

The pic of the baitfish pattern is a pattern I dubbed the "Maraba Muddler", hoping to get some fish on that soon.

This fatty was caught on a fly, rather dubiously called a "Meat Whistle". The last pic shows the fly that did the damage.

Nice, what was the weight? Was this friday afternoon BTW?

Is your MW weighted? Tied up a couple myself and threw them broken at clan and where your fish was taken, but to no avail. Think my problem is I need to fishing on a fast sink. My intermediate is too slow.

I got a couple this was the biggest of 1.4kg but sadly not on the Meat Whistle

Yeah, I tie the MW with dumbell eyes, gives it lekker weight and with a jig hook. Nice fooshy! Looks like that bite is off there at that spot.

That day, we fished sinking lines.

The proper way is to fish the MW on a long leader, floating line and with a strike indicator and get it to drift along. Check it out on Feathers and Fluro.

Nice to meet you too. :blue-biggrin: Ja tried the floating line, Think i was just too impatient as the bite was easier to get on plastic. I used a brass cone but might have chose one that is too heavy, battle to get it out. Where do you get your jig hooks and what size? What size dumbel do you use?

about the same as two cases of beer.

I dont know, it was nice and fat, had great length and girth

its about a similar size to the few I got, als fatties, weighed in at around 1.4kgs

I have caught 3 before on my 5 wt, All at clanwilliam and in and around the 1.8kg mark, sooooo much more fun than on conventional tackle. Conventional tackle - 2 minute fight if that, flyrod at least 10 minutes of exhilaration.
