Mokolo update 26/02/2015

Good day my fellow anglers.

Mokolo has provided me with my first ,as well as my biggest, bass. It is a gem hidden in the waterberg mountains near Ellisras (Lephalale). It gives the bass angler the opportunity to enjoy his favorite pass time, as well as a scenic bushveld getaway from "the rat-race".

Mokolo update:

The main tributary, the Mogol river, is flowing in strongly now, and some of the other smaller streams are also trickling in slowly. These are normally hotspots for filling your bag quickly.

The bigger bass seems to still be in deeper waters. There are small bait balls on the rocky sides of the dam. If you manage to find one, you will be sure to have a exciting few minutes of fishing before it splits up and vanish into the depths.

Mokolo got crocs & hippos allaj26?

Plenty of crocs, but haven't seen hippos there since 2010. If they make there scarce appearance, they usually only stay for a few days , then move back to the river system.

Dankie Alla, gaan eendag probeer om MOKOLO te besoek. Watter tyd van die jaar dink jy is die beste tyd om dam te besoek vir die grotes.

There are camp sites at the dam with 2 separate ablution blocks. Please keep in mind cold water only. You can book at Leopard lodge or The Cubs. I stayed at The Cubs a few times, They have self catering chalets available, and it is situated not more then 1km from the dam. +27 83 254 7437.

JY moet verseker plan maak. Van nou tot einde April is 'n baie goeie tyd. Die bass stock nou op vir die winter, en weens al die aas vissies, jag die bass nou besonders aktief. Ek gaan verseker more daar 'n lyn nat maak. Ek sal kom terug voer...

Wat is die grootste wat jy al daar gekry het ?

EK weet van oor 5kg wat al n verskyning gemaak het. 3-4kg vis is redelik algemeen. Daar is n klein seuntjie wat eendag laas jaar van die kant af 'n 4.4kg gevang het toe ek daar was. My pb is maar 'n skraal 3.57kg.

As promised, I went to Mokolo this passed Saturday. Unfortunately I only had 4 hours on the water, and spent most of it enjoying the new boat. I did manage to fish a little, and caught 5 fish. All but one was caught on a watermelon magic fluke (mojo). The other was on a brown jig. The biggest one was 2.02 kg. All the fish caught on fluke where in shallow water, as there are an abundance on bait fish in the shallows. The other one was caught next to a submerged tree witch I only discovered now thanks to an exceptional fish finder on the new boat. For those of you who like bream fishing,I spoke to other fishermen there. Loads of Mozambique tilapia was caught. Some was over 1.3kg. So I'm told...

Good day...

Hope the E-Bass anglers had a good day on Mokolo this past Saterday. I heard from some of the guys there, the biggest bag was 7.something kg. I went fishing on Sunday. The fishing was exceptionally hard. I managed to get one good fish for the day. I did not weigh it, but sure it was close to the 2kg mark. The rest was to small to mention. I'll get some pho-die's up asap.

Water levels has gone down fast. Lost of water was released last week. I'm sure that had a big influence on the fishing.
