But in a nut shell, get the batteries to the back. Also run a thicker than normal wiring to the front so that you dont get amperage drop from batteries to the trolling motor.

Every boat is unique and there must be a reason why your batteries are upfront in the first place. On my seeker 480 (16ft) and which is wider than all boats this size, my batteries (24V trolling @ +/- 54kg) are upfront and that's how it was designed. The power (kw) per kg of motor and gear ratio are all important in the boat setup. When I ran a heavier 115 opti I had to put the kids on the front to get on to the plane. If I had to reduce pitch to achieve this she would have the opportunity to over rev and wasn't going to take a chance when the kids use the boat without me.

Went back to a lighter 90 ELPTO with a higher gear ratio and got the same results but no more handling and planning problems anymore! I learnt a lot with this exercise.......

Weigh your batteries and take them out and insert equal weight or persons at the back position and take her for a spin to test. Always have the boat packed full when you test as if on a normal fishing outing. Consider too the ruling on fuel / batteries in one compartment particularly if your fuel tank doesn't vent to the outside...........
