Getting Juniors Started

Dear All,
We live in Gordons Bay Cape Town. We would love to join a club in or around the area - so they can get out to more locations and learn more. My son is 7 and daughter is 11 and they have been fishing for ever, but want to do it more regularly. Where can I go to get membership and meet a club in the area. Thanks in advance

Hi Fishing Mom.As a spot to start with,going to Eikenhoff dam is great fun.Best to use smallish plastic worms with a small weight if fishing from the bank...they should be able to catch plenty,maybe not monsters,but they will be catching a ton of small ones,which is still great fun and will give the kids an idea of how the bass take lures.
As for Angling Clubs in your area,I am only aware of Helderberg Bassmasters which is located your side of town.If you browse the SABAA (South African Bass Angling Association)website,you should be able to see what they get up to.Contact Pierre van der Merwe on <!-- e --><a href="mailto:pierre@fandfcooling.co.za">pierre@fandfcooling.co.za</a><!-- e --> who will assist you.These clubs fish mainly from boats at the various venues around the cape and have a Junior facet where junior anglers are taken on boats and compete against each other,leading up to the selection for Province and National Colours.
As a more social aspect to angling,there is a Kick Boat circuit that is fished and hosted by this BFSA site,but that would require the purchase of a kick boat or float tube ...be warned,this is a LARGE money pit that you are getting into,but if it gets the kids outdoors,it is the best investment ever.

Yes I am close to Eikenhof and would love to take them there this week, they have upgraded reels and rods and new lures after Christmas so they really want to go test it out. But I cannot seem to get hold of anyone that can tell me how to actually get INTO Eikenhof dam area to fish? Apparently Country club is very expensive? Any other access points?

Thanks man. Tried calling now - no answer, sent a email but got a Auto Response :blue-confused:
So it doesn't look like I will be able to get into Cape Pine before the end of the week. Can go to Ongegunt, but kids bored there already, Bass very small and far between. :blue-sad:

Right - had a lovely day at Eikenhoff dam, bagged - 10 smallish Bass (not me, the kids)

Still no luck in getting hold of anyone for SABAA for us. Have mailed. But will keep trying.

Glad you had some success. It's one of my favourite places to go and just forget the rat race for a few hours. I filmed these at Eikenhof a while ago. A word of caution though, there are loads of snakes in the area and they are fond of swimming.
