yep but once you have added customs and excise you are looking at R270 + outboard + electronics. A long way out of my 150 - 200K budget :-( but it is a very nice boat.

Read the promo again, the US$22k (R170k) was including motor!!!!!! 8O

Thanks Drew... every time I surf the international boat sites I get the urge to import a boat... the prices are just so good there compared to here... And if one looks at the second hand boat market in the USA there are a lot of really good deals... I?m surprised that someone doesn?t start importing second hand bass boats from the US.

Rob, I forwarded your mail 2 Blondie. He imports second hand jet skis and has paid his house off in a flash by doing this. There are permits required obviously, and to import second had is not cheap in that regard, but still very cost effective. I almost imported a Skeeter second hand as my first boat.... I still kick myself for not doing so :-( Like Pome, maybe I will get it right the 3rd time around....

i wanted to import a new boat with a outboard from the states and all the outboard dealers in my area said they are not alowed to service a "gray import" motor, we pay way more that the dudes in the states .

I can understand where they are coming from... I was in the modem game in the glory days of the internet and I used to sell tons of modems... and of course there were the grey imports that people brought to me with problems and I sent them away because the local distributors wouldn?t touch them... however... the chap that services my boat a techie of note and not allied to any manufacturer and will service any motor... And I know the warranty won?t be valid but I guess it all boils down to costs... if the boat and motor is really that much cheaper then one accepts the risks.

The non-support of the grey market is all a loag of hog wash any way. They are made in the same factory, it's not like it is a completly or even partly different. The channels are set up so the people at the top of them can line thier pockets more than they should.

your spot on pomerob, i just thought that i did not want to take a new type outboard, that you have to link to a computer to someone that does'nt have the right equipment.
you can get a brand new ranger for $20-000 plus with a outboard in the states, k@k en betaal in sa!

I thought I would have the same kak with my Quantum reels. Got them in the states but luckily bass world will support them with spares and services.

$20K, how can the local dealers go to work and face customers knowing that the customers know how much they should cost. Some people have thick skins :evil:

you still have to pay for the shipping + import duties, i personaly think outboards are way overpriced in sa, saw a add the other day on a website in usa, 150hp optimax 2006 model that a guy won at a comp and mercury would honour the 3year guarantee $10-000, sa price R115-000 upwards! :x

even the importers have to pay the shipping and import duties. It is that cost plus thier obviously cheaper cost prices due to their dealerships minus thier selling prices that leaves them with fat, huge stinking profit margins.

Actually i musnt bitch to much, when I had a dealership we had to commit to X$ per annum which we recieved penalties for if we didnt reach. I dont really know what goes on behind the scenes. It just seems that we, the end user get ripped off at the end of the day.
