Hi

I moved down from Durban area to Lakeside about a month ago and have been busy settling in and doing some exploring in the area. First some background - I started fishing for bass in farm dams as a schoolboy (waay before cellphones) and have been able to chase bass and lots of other species whilst living in the US, UK and most recently Ireland. Over the years I and have been really blessed with many wonderful fishing opportunities.

Mostly on lure (I enjoy UL spinning especially) and fly (but I'll use bait happily) I've been lucky to catch amongst other species stripers, steelhead, kokanee, squawfish, redeye bass (and the other 3 species),pike, seabass, wrasse, pollack, European perch, snook (in Brazil), channel cat, chub, trout (cutthroat, 'bows, brookie and browns), whitefish, suckers, sturgeon, crappies, grayling, carp, barbel and quite a few inshore KZN species. I also do shorebased SW spinning (got my first YT last week thanks to Anton R!). I've been privileged to meet and fish with lots of amazing guys here and all over the world who have generously shared their time, knowledge and fishing spots.

I particularly love bass fishing (though I'm not very good at it compared with some of the guys I fished with in KZN) and especially when done off a KB. My PB bass was either a 4.2kg Alberts fish or an unweighed 63cm at Nagle. I am of course ashamed at being the only basser in KZN not to have a 10lber but there you go! I've recently been using a lot of bait finesse tactics and light spinning with 3-5lb FC even though in Inanda and Shongweni I can catch more/bigger fish punching or using frogs. For some reason I don't hugely enjoy poking around in salad.

That said I got my first WC bass (what a football!!) in many years in Zandvlei whilst pitching in the reeds near the railway bridge. I'm really looking forward to chasing smallies and spots again (last time was on the Doring in the 90's) and maybe even a Clanwilliam yellow at some point. I look forward to meeting keen bassers locally. Pics are from my local fishing over the last few weeks.

Welcome in the Cape. I think I have seen your handle on TT a couple of times.
You might pick up a bit of flack for posting a picture of a carp in your first post. :blue-lol:

Thanks - I'll make a note to also avoid posting my favourite catfish pictures Wink

Some other pics... random Shongweni bas on swimbait and first/only Sterkies LM yellow (UL spinning)

Nice one Allsorts, great intro post.

Congrats on getting that Tail from shore. If you keen to share the location I would appreciate it but if not I really do understand the need to keep spots secret.

Im actually also very keen to catch that unmentionable fish on fly. Was that also caught here in the Cape.
