It was with great anticipation that I arrived at Bivane last Wednesday. I have heard so much about the monsters lurking there.

When I first switched on the fishfinder, I thought that this would be a cinch. It was fish everywhere, from 3ft to 70ft.

To my despair, I did not even get a hit for 2 days. I tried everything. Worms, jigs, spinners, paddle tails, hard lures, weedless, wacky. I even trolled!

Only on the third day was I able to catch one slowly retrieving a worm. And my 5-year old was also able to land his first one.

Then my boat decided to desert me, so it was bank fishing from then on, mostly from the jetty.

Caught a few fish casting over a pile of rocks, but I felt it was more pure luck than anything else.

On Monday, with us being the only people around, I used a squirrel tail from the jetty, casting to the deep and retrieving on the bottom.

Was able to land a 3.6lb beauty.

Strange thing about the fish at Bivane- They do not nibble or pull at the bait. They hit and then pull like hell!

Beautifull venue, very well maintained. 7 days camping cost us R 1050!

I believe that the cold front which hit us around Saturday was responsible for the bad fishing.

Will definately be back sooner rather than later![ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]

That does not look good. We have had some solid rain over the last 2 weeks so left hope it breaks the back of this drought and we get a lot more rain.
The more I learn about fishing the more I realise
how much more I have to learn about fishing.
