Hello from Germany

Hello there!

My name is Sebastian (age 29) and I`m from Germany. With our ZAR trip coming soon (March 22nd to April 12th) and my interest in bass-fishing, I was searching the internet for some relevant information and found this interesting forum.
After some safari in several national parks, my girlfriend an me will board a flight from Johannesburg to Capetown. Our accomodation for the last 6 days is set in Somerset West/Gordon`s Bay.
Here in Germany i prefer spinfishing for pike, perch, trout and pikeperch. I convinced my girlfriend that half a day or a day trying my luck for some bass would make me very happy.
What do you locals say: does it make sense to take two combos (e.g.a 1oz and a 3/4oz.) with me? Is there generally the possibility to get a fishing license without huge effort (i`ve got the german/bavarian fishing license)? We will have a rental car and therefor are quite mobile. What dams or other waters would you experts recommend? My aim is "just" to get one (or gladly more :lol: ) small (or gladly bigger :lol: ) bass. How are the chances? What options do i have? Do i have chances from the bank or is a boat needed? Or even a guide? What baits should i take with me? Or are my plans not worth the effort?

I know that these are a lot of questions but maybe you have some answers. :eusa_angel:

You can rent a boat at Mofam river lodge! Fishing is good there and it's close to where you're staying ! Good luck!

Hi Juba! Thank you! That sounds really good! Do you know if there`s a special boat license needed? Any other tips concerning baits or info about cover and/or structure? I`m a total bass noob but here in Germany T-Rig is one of my favourite methods and it works excellent for our perch and pikeperch. How are the chances with topwater baits in april? I won`t be able to take that much tackle and baits down there.

I would not bring too much of your tackle with you when you visit our beautiful part of the world in Cape Town...when yo get here,I will be happy to take you and partner to one of our better bass waters,stay overnight,cook some meat on the open fire and catch some decent bass...all you have to do is contribute to the expenses and all tackle is on the boat.Would be glad to help out.
