Top Lodge for topwater bass

Who would have thought you could have the best topwater bass fishing on top of the amphitheater. They are a black bass cross with Florida bass. My wifes comment in the guest book.

Just out of curiosity why do you use a left handed spinning reel and a right handed biatcaster.

Because I cast right handed and I dont need to change hands to close the bale after casting and beginning to retrieve. Why do you cast and then change your grip?

Force of habit I suppose. I cast the same way with both spinner and baitcaster.
Cast with left hand reel with right.

I take it you are left handed then.

I have just realised I am talking crap, I cast right handed with my baitcaster and left handed with my spinning reel

The US guys tend to fish like this and it makes sense but I am so used to using my right hand on a spinning reel that it will be difficult to change now.

I supposed your reaction time and hook set will be better if you are right handed with the spinning setup.

Jeremy's got a point here I cast both rigs right handed
I hold the line with my spinning reel with my right finger to cast and I hold the drum with my right thumb with a baitcaster to castand I have then to change my grip to wind right handed.
So! can you buy a left wind baitcaster?

use your right thumb and you dont have to regrip " if you are right handed"

Thumb is not the importing part here. Look at where the handle is on the bait caster.

Even KVD switches grip and cast right handed and reels right handed with a baitcaster but like Navrik says about the US angler he has a left handed spinning reel.

I always wondered if it really makes a difference to change hands or not after a cast?
I know you guys are talking spinning reels here. But I think it is the same for baitcasters.
I saw some pro's and friends cast left hand with a RH baitcaster, even if they are right handed, so that they don't have to switch the rig over to the other hand.

I am right handed and I cast right handed, but it is so trained in me that after a cast (even while the lure is flying through the air) my rig ends up in my left hand in the same casting action and I'm ready to engage and strike. I can't see how I would ever save time by not doing it. Even on short casts.

Being brought up with Mitchel spinning reels in the 50,s I think they only had left wind handles so thats the way I use it. Funny enough my son cant use the rod and uses a right hand wind spinning reel. We were testing the walker prototypes and he couldnt get the action going with my left wind rod.I told him nonsense untill I failed to get the action going with his right wind rod. One more other reason for left wind reels for right hand people is your strongest arm is holding the rod when playing the fish.

A confession, I am right handed but eat left handed. I cast left handed rock & surf cos that's how my dad taught me and I taught my kids and its comfortable for us. I only fish right handed reels for bass but cast both ways and don't believe that the delay in changing hands for a solid strike is reason enough to force one to fish differently to what comes naturally.

Maybe us complex humans are over analysing this.... :eusa_think:
