Hi All

Just a short report......................A brilliant day on the water the weather just perfect.
Myself & Piet launched at about 05:30 had a cup of cofee on our way to Taxi bay.
After an hour no fish.... so I decided to change to my old time favorite a black 4" zoom worm....and bang, the first one 1.2 kg's , Piet changed to a smaller worm a 4" Venom dew and another of about a KG. We got a bout 5 just over a kg and a few small ones.

At about 10 it went dead quiet and we decided to try a few new spots. Nothing ..Niks.....

At about 11:30 we got stuck at some bay and it looked like a good spot. I was still fiddeling with the troling motor when I heard Piet scream bring the net ...bring the net. The only thing that I saw was his rod bent in half...and then I saw it..a nice one of 2.57 KG's & Piet's personal best.

We stuck around till 12:00 and decided to call it a day.

Nice one Appel? not sure I would have called it a day so soon? I was at a mate?s house having a braai and wishing I could have been on the dam! And then when the rain arrived I almost rigged up the boat and headed into the night? but the lightning stopped me! The barometer hasn?t dropped much? I wonder what it would be like today?

Hi guys

What I did not mentioned is ...that I have lost 2 big fish due to my line that snapped......?

I just redo my spools with Platinum XX 7 Kg line.... I did not know how it happend but on both occasions the fish was close to the boat and snap...........and I will not mention the words that follows. SO XX got minus 10 point from me..........................!!!!!

Ahhh OK then that makes sense! The next time we really start to catch fish like we did in winter I?m not sure I will leave till dark!

When I was still a real newbie back in winter we used to catch like 75 fish in a session? OK they weren?t big ones but it was an awesome outing? knowing what I know now I?m so looking forward to winter!

Oh Appel Appel Appel? 7kg line is no good at Inanda! You really need to re-spool with 15lb Berkeley Big Game line! If you fish with 7lb line at the KZN Tour and loose a fish to a line snapping you will get a heavy fine and a beating with a 9? Dinger! ;-)

Appel are you using 7kg line or 7lb line. 7kg line is 15lb breaking strain.

You firstly need to check if you are breaking at the knot, if so you need to check out how you tie your knots. With monofilament the best knot to use is the Polomar knot.
Secondly your line will normally snap when the fish is close to the boat because there is so little line out to stretch and take the shock of a fish turning and making a last hard run.
Learn to adjust your drag when you're fighting a big fish, using a heavy drag setting to hook a fish and get him away from cover initially is fine but once the fish is clear of the structure you need to decrease your drag to allow "give" when he makes those hard runs near the boat.

Remember that breaking strain in line is measured by using a smooth even pulling motion. 15lb line will break at 15lb pressure with smooth tension but it will break at less than 7lb if it is shocked or the knot is bad.
Generally your knot is the weakest point.

You also need to retie often. I retie after every large fish I catch or after every 3rd or 4th small fish.

Back your drag off and have fun fighting the fish, and you'll get more in the boat.

Uhmmmm.... 7kg line and 15Lb line is one and the same.... 8O :-?

I take it your advising Appel to get BERKLEY BIG GAME in particular, not making reference to the breaking strain as you mentioned 7kg and 7lb and 15lb...?!?!?! Talk about cofusing the k@k out of him!!!!

Appel, translated msg from King Dinger..... Upgrade to 15LB BERKLEY BIG GAME!!!!

As Fishton would say.... I've mastered Norkinese and Dingernese!!! Impressive!!!! lmfao......
