Take what is needed...

How do most of you guys operate, do you lug the 100's of cranks/hardbaits and 100's of bags of different plastics along with you on every trip you go on, or do you "gamble" and split your tackle so that your boat doesn't look like a removals van?

The thought of getting to a dam and not having something is just too much for me to bear,but at the same time lugging 4-5 tackle bags around is just... :blue-cry:

I take it all including spares!! I suppose that's the beauty of owning a bass boat!
Tackle and rods lives on the boat! If I could fit more tackle on the boat I would :blue-confused:

That is where knowing the waters that you are going to fish comes into play. I take what I know works on a piece of water. But if it's a new dam... well them it all goes with!

I take it all but always use my favourites. Gonna stop carting it all. If I do badly because i never had something I will reconsider.

I have a makeshift bass bout so my tackle is not stored on the boat permanently. Every time I go out I take every bit of tackle with me, for just in case. :blue-biggrin:

As with bblunt I also only use my favorites, so there is no real point in carting everything with but I still do it even if I go to the farm dams. Got myself a massive tackle box and everything is in there and goes with every time.

Well lets put it this way,now you know way guys that have being fishing for years own big baas boats with 250 hp motors on,not for speed but so drag all that tackle around.......hahahaha.No i agree if you know a peace of water it is simple,but new dams you take every thing you got,+ a case of beer,just in case the fishing is bad.

We have now got to the stage where we have a farm box with a selection and older rods & reels which we can pick up and run if we go fishing out the blue.
Otherwise, the bulk of the tackle is on the boat and sometimes the boat is at another venue. Took us years to get here but you eventually figure out what is more important when you start digging in those tackle boxes......

I take about 8 million tons of tackle for just in case but then I have a little blue bag of my go to baits for that dam… 9 times out of 10 I only use stuff from the little bag…

I take everything every time when the fishing gets bad it gives me time to think going through all my tackle and sometime you use a lure that used to be one of your favorites long time ago you put it on and bam it is your new favorite lure or rig.

I also end up taking most of my tackle. One of the reasons why I need a bigger boat...or a garage sale :blue-badgrin:

I've read Mike Ikonelli's autobio.
He got a small tackle box that is his go baits. He takes this on every tournament he does.
When all the other baits does not work, he digs into this one.

I don't have a go bait box, but in each of my 5 boxes (sorted by type) I carry on my kick boat where space is limited, I have a compartment with my go baits.

As mentioned before, if you know the water, you pack for it. But I always have these go baits that is there if all else fails.

Having go baits also comes with experience, or getting your confidence baits.
If I go to water I don't know, I pack my confidence baits (Flukes are a good example here).
Then I would choose a light colour (whitish, light green/grey backs), dark colour (Junebug), green natural (Watermelon) and brown natural (Pumpkin seed). That way I'm sure I'm pretty much covered for a wide variety of conditions.

Leave the fancy colours at home until you can prove they work for you in a certain dam.
