Big Accident

Bad accident at Nandoni. Guys this is the reason to always wear your life jackets while under outboard power and to wear the all important kill switch.

"Tribal Bass boat were demoing their boat at full speed and hit big wake and nose dived in and boat snapped in two, 2 people airlifted to hospital !!"

Jeeez, I am glad that the guys are OK.
By the look of the photos it could have been catastrophic. Like you said, this is definitely important to wear your kill switch and life jacket.

Having thankfully never seen the aftermath of a boating accident I'm still left wondering whether this is "normal" damage. The boat appears to have shattered.

Any guess at the speed? How many horses are hanging on the back; I can't spot a number.

I understand that the hull is a copy of a Nitro Z7; 18'8" long rated for 150. At Nandoni's altitude the 250 was effectively a 235. That's almost 60% over the recommended rating.

The photos illustrate the danger of over-powering a hull.

Geez this is bad! Glad to here the guys are okay.

Is this the same bout that we saw some time ago on BFSA, the one the guys commented on that the motor is to big and the boat is not sitting right on the water?

Ninja - yes it would appear to be the same boat. Only a light hull could achieve such crazy speeds.

Geesh this is hectic im glad to hear the chaps are alright. Most of us overpower our boats but in my opinion something else went wrong here. I have had overpowered boats and have seen many boats hit wakes and never has a boat shattered like that. Just my take on it.

I am going to stick my neck out here,but there is absolutely NO WAY that a boat,even hitting a wake at 100 kph should break up into pieces like that.There is something lacking in the process of laying up that hull,my guess,the stronger (and heavier) roving and reinforcing of GRP longitudinal stringers.Light does not always mean strong,and coupled to that a 250 HP outboard on outmount,you are staring disaster head on.Thank goodness the injuries were not worse or even fatal.

I was there the weekend. Accident happened after I left and the winners where announced. That boat was pretty fast.

Im glade that the guys are okey.......but in my opinion that boat was way overpower,we all want to go fast and be the fist on our fishing spots,but there are limits to anything in life and risking our life on a bass comp is just not worth it.Let this be a lesson for us all to be safe on the water.

These images remind me of the time I used my spearfishing fins on my kickboat ;I was very fortunate to get out of that situation in one piece!

In the US laws are very clear what size motors to fit what size boats. In SA most bass boats are over powerd. There must be certain laws in place to what size enjin to fit a certain size boat. Imagine what would have happened if another boat was invloved.
Glad those gents didn't pay with their lives.
That spesific boat is built for a 150 hp.
