Sorry to here this Duncan, hop you and the missus are okay. We live a different lifestyle in this country. my two boys (when still in school) were high-jacked in my drive way with shots fired, fortunately they where not hit. Since then my house is like Fort Nox, CCTV cameras all over, alarm system, all internal door locked every night and 9mm within reach every night.

I'm fed up living like this, unfortunately I cannot see it getting any better. On the flippen stupid "gun" law. I never renewed my license back then and the day before the cut off day for handing it in without "penalties" the court rule against the new license law and suspended it until for notice. Thank God I did note handed my gun in as it would more than likely ended up being used by some thing robbing or killing someone.

Since the court ruling I have been checking with the Gun Owners Association of SA and they keep on telling me to keep my gun as my "old' license is still valid, has anyone else experience the same?

I hear you Rip, but I was just wondered what the current state is with the "new" license law to persons that hold "old" licenses? According to the Chairperson of the GOASA the the old license is valid and there are still millions of South Africans that have weapons and did not convert to the new license. Is there anyone else in the same boat?

riprap he didnt want to kill the person...instead just make it difficult for him to move around....seems it didnt pay off...shooting him in the knee is just a waste of tax payers money.

Can't answer that as my new ones are already up for renewal! Next roadblock I'll see what "officialdom" say as I'll present them with the old licence!!

I went and took back my 2 clay shotguns and left the 38 sp

I was sorely tempted to use them but didnt want to end up in jail.

You say the old licence is still valid is that official?

Getting the new license is not hard at all, you go do a test (which is pathetic) and that is it. It did take 18 months for mine to come through but I have it and my hand cannon sleeps by my head every night... and from the horses mouth (cops) shoot to kill, not to injure.

Duncan as far as I know (heard) the Hunting Association and the Gun Owners Association took it to court back then and a ruling was made that the implementation of the new law (renewal of licenses) was postponed indefinite.

August just confirmed now that the old green licenses are still valid. I will do some more research and let you guys know, unless there are other that can confirm this.

Im busy doing a Ninja to my house Fort Knox will be easier to get in to.

I had too many dark areas in my garden close to the door where they charged from as we opened the door to let the dogs out.

Did phone the correct guys this week. Id say best option is to actually phone your local SAPS firearms department.

Also aplication dont take so long anymore. If you already have your competency then its anything from 3-6 weeks.
