I always thought Shimano is a bit over priced. I owned a few Crestfires when I started out fishing. One or two failed on me, and I never went back. I know a Crestfire is a bottom range reel, but I figured at that stage that a Quantum for the same price, was a better buy. I fished with a Quantum Icon and Pulse for a few years, then started buying proper reels. First I got an Abu Garcia Revo Inshore, awesome reel. Then a Quantum Tour Edition, Quntum Smoke, a couple of Abu Orra SX's and a Revo Premier. All outstanding reels. Both Quantums gave me some trouble with the drag system, but got it fixed.

I have recently started selling a little bit of fishing gear myself, and had some good reviews from guys who bought Lew's reels from me. I bought myself two reels, but will only by able to test them this weekend. Really looking forward to it!!

To be quite honest I am still very happy with my Quantum PT Tours and KVD Tours. I service them myself before the start of every season as some of them have been going strong for 5+ years.

I also purchases quite a few PT Tours second hand and got some of my KVD Tours for very cheap when the new models were announced and the retailers wanted to clear out old stock.

The KVD Tour is an absolute beast of a reel and I used 3 different ratios for cranking. If my boat's winch packs up I know where to turn.

All my reels looks as good as the day I got them without any signs of wear and tear. I love the carbon fibre handle and the fact that all my reels feels the same in my hand. I know how to set them up and they cast a mile.

I have about 12 reels half Quantum other Half Shimano.... The Shimano will last you much longer than the Quantum from my experience(largely because of the aluminium gears). That said the Quantum cast further and is smoother...

The smoothness of my PT Tours and especially the easier user of the thumb bar will keep me with Quantum for a good while

Lately been pairing my Quantum Reels with ALX rods and the rigs are nicely balanced.

This sounds a bit like the Land Rover vs Land Cruiser debate?
Is Shimano made to be the Toyota here?

Tested my Lew's reels this weekend. I am very happy with them. Never casted anything so smooth before.
