Comments: Very disappointed with Shimano. I bought this reel with all the hype. Shouldve waited for another sucker to review this. Dont get me wrong the looks great and feels nice. Has alot of plastis pieces on it now. I know Shimano making reels cheaper so people can afford them. But man come on for $340 they should have made it some what like the TE not the B. The star drag on the outside is a good idea. OH YEAH! And now to get to breaking system to adjust ur casting breaks sux. I have to unscrew the side (cheap screws) then pull out the spool and other stuff. It's a hassle doing this just to adjust the break tabs. And to top it all off I drop 2 in the water while I was on the boat. I feel like returning this so bad. Im going to miss the TE's. Its a dame shame Shimano put all this work on this reel and it still needs improvements. Come on Shimano get with program.

Comments: Ok. Got to try out my new calcutta d 200 this morning. Bought it because I need serious power to keep bass from going into trees, 60 yds out in a lake where I can't put a boat. First off, this reel casts different than all my other shimano's. I usually just use one brake block, then use the cast control from there, and I'm good. Since I need to hit a target 60 yds out, casting performance is extra important to me.
The problem with this reel is, you have to unscrew the sideplate, and remove the spool to get to the brakes. You will need a screwdriver to do this, they don't give you one. So I had to take it apart 3-4 times til I got it set up the way I wanted which was a pain. Also, 1 block isn't enough with this reel (maybe due to xship or more inertia from the taller spool?), but 2 is a little too much braking for me. Wish it came with an extra set of lighter blocks like core 50. If you are not going to give me access to the spool, at least give me more options so I can dial it in perfectly.
The drag knob would be better suited on a courser adjustment. This drag is so infinitely adjustable that you turn that little knob 20 revolutions before you get it where you want it. Once you get it set, it is smooth. Don't expect to mess with it while fighting a fish (I don't know why someone would do that, but I'm sure someone does). I was able to water ski a 4 1/2 lber, 150 feet to keep it out of the trees. This really isn't much of a test because I do this regularly with the old calcutta b. Though it did seem smoother and more effortless. When I hook an 8+ I will know if this reel is the deal because this is where the 200b keeps failing me.

Comments: This is honestly the biggest rip off and waste of money. This is pure TRASH. The bearings fell out, the reel feel off, the magnets.... are just a piece of crap, and the heaviest reel i have ever used. PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THiS. If you want an outstanding reel get the Abu Garcia Revo or Daiwa Spincast Silvercast-A Reels. This is the best reel for your money and its a tad cheeper.

Comments: Forgive me, please, but I just don't get it. True, I'm a Daiwa fan, and I know Shimano has a following, but at FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS one might expect to get more than FOUR BEARINGS? How can this reel be tough? How can it be built to last? There are quite a number of feather weight reels on the market, many of which have considerable more line capacity than the Core. If it's Magnesium that you want, then buy a Steez.

Comments: I think Shimano done fudged up. I don't know how they figure they can remove bearings and generally cheapen their models and call it an upgrade to the previous generation. My sentiments echo what I'm hearing over and over. As a lifelong Shimano guy (literally all I've ever owned in 25+ years) I definitely feel like it's a good time to try something else. That said these are still decent reels just a bit disappointing is all. I recommend getting a Quantum or Abu.

I've only fished once since getting back from Thailand... not even fishing this weekend either because have a 70th birthday party I have to go to as well as a memorial service for a mates Dad.

I got a little dehydrated fishing Inanda and was man down for a few days..

Gonna take my future son-in-law fishing next week before he heads home and back to Varsity.

Just to stay on topic... I got my third JDM Shimano yesterday... Aldebaran 8.0.1 BFS-XG! She is the most beautiful reel I have seen in a long time and weighs nothing! Reduced line capacity spool! Simply stunning! I'll take some pics and do a full report back as soon as I have taken her fishing!

Nope I didn't really... a bit from the beach at Krabi (a couple of dinkies) but it wasn't a fishing holiday... on our last day in Krabi I discovered a fishing lake not far from us where there were big fish to catch and release but by then it was too late.

Next holiday is a fishing holiday back to the US of A for me... clean hotels, great facilities, drinking water and not a tropical jungle....

Also interesting to note that the guys breaking Quantum down never quote the exact model. When they look for bad press they go and look for R250 Quantum and try and compare that to R1500 .......

C'mon be a bit more specific and give us the link where you are getting your bad press from.

@Frikster...did you not try and sell some high end ..... stuff recently

@Roy why are you defending ..... if you are not fishing with it anymore. You should be coming out in favour of Pinnacle which I must say look and feel ten times better than any ....... I have seen so far.
