Inanda dam newbie tips

Hey
this is my 1st post, so take it easy on me :blue-smile:

I'm just starting out in dam fishing..so far a total of about 30 casts and no fish
Going to inanda dam tmrw since its in my backyard and I have a free day

I have 37 different types/colours of worms, 34 crankbaits/lures and a few spinners to get me started

While my skippers is being done and saving up for a boat, I plan to hire a canoe and paddle my way around
I've got a laminated map of the contours and fishing spots

If anyone can offer some tips regarding preferred baits and which fishing spots to try, i'd be very very grateful

Hope to catch me a monster tomorrow with the guidance of the pros

Welcome to the site FB.

You are a bit restricted with a canoe but it is better than by foot. You can only go left or right and hug the shoreline. From the slipway I would go left and fish the little bay and then on towards Duzi point. That whole area has lots of submerged trees (ask Ninja :blue-biggrin: ) that do produce.

As a second session you could drive into the camping area and launch by the wooden huts. You could fish that bay or even make your way to barbel bay. I'm a plastics fan so for me it would be dingers and fluke in natural colours.

or you could look into a kickboat...speak pem(piseces predatorkickboat) or myself (puddlehopper kickboat) or even froggy about investing in a kickboat or float tube.

then join one of the groups like the puddlehoppers on the water and learn for them...the puddlehoppers are on the water every weekend...fishing a variety of dams...like inanda...shongweni...hazelmnere...etc.

it is better to spend time on the water with other fisherman...they will show you techniques and spots to fish.

Perfect weather today and I got stuck redesigning a building :blue-rolleyes:

My fishing calender says this coming weekend is great fishing
So one of my worms/lures is bound to work

A friend volunteered his inflatable for fishing this weekend!
So I might get to explore more of the dam

I've read about all the types of rigs and dropshotting etc
BUT my concern is, how does your line not get stuck in the trees or timber or reeds?
Some of the crankbaits cost more than my reel and I don't want to lose them

Plastics you have to hook them weedless by skimming the hook just under the platstic but for cranks you need a good lure retriever.

The other option is the new floatback lure that you can break loose after getting stuck and it floats back to the surface.

i found that the retriever with the chains works the best.

I was at the dam from 7am till 4pm

About 5 hours on the water and not a single fish! :blue-rolleyes:
