I was reading this forum topic on anglers.net and it said that there are smallmouth bass in the uk? Is this true?

No, there aren't. They may have been referring to saltwater bass.

There are pike though, which are a far better fish to catch than a bass.

I saw somewhere once that there is a single quarry with smallmouth in it but it is not a public water
