Crank Bait Retriever

The Best thing to have on a boat beside your tackle & Rods would be a Lure Retriever. :blue-idea:
As you guys are aware there are quite a few types available on the market so choose one that works for you.

I'm using the E-Z Lure Retriever from BASS PRO SHOP and It saved me thousands of rand's on all types of lures that got stuck it’s not just for Crankbaits you can knock out almost any lure that got stuck as well as fish that got snagged up in trees it will basically pay off itself within the first few trips.

The lure retriever works great but the plastic reel is horrible and should be immediately taken off and replaced with one of the following:

• Get an old busted rod put an old reel on it Shorten the rod to the first guide. Put braid on the reel and tie on your lure retriever. It makes it so easy to use and you just hook on the retriever and push a button wind up when done. Also saves a lot of time.

• Get a Doggy walker leash real from any Vet shop, it’s self retractable and so fast to use as well as very compact takes up no space.

It takes a little skill trying to juggle the boat in the right positing while holding your rod in the one hand and the retriever in the other especially in the wind, and this all at the same time. However, that does not take away from the product as you will have those troubles with nearly any lure retriever out there. I've learned to be patient with it and put it on my line when I'm around 10 feet away from being over top of where it is hung up at and let it start down towards the lure while I'm trolling over to it more often than not it will slide down the line and knock the lure free just before I get over the top of it. There are times when I have to work it a little bit more than others just depends on how/what I'm hung up on. Sometimes it comes free with just the weight of this come down on it sometimes you have to use this to "hammer" it off by repeatedly lifting the retriever a few feet above the lure and letting it fall if you still can’t get it out then bounce it up and down rapidly to get the chains snagged up on the hooks and then give it a good pull to bend open the hook.

It is fast, and reliable and once you get the hang of it you will use it +- 5 times in a tournament without any effort and you will save time . I would recommend this to any tournament angler who can’t afford to lose a hot lure in the middle of a tournament, or at least can’t afford to keep replacing them 4 or 5 times a day.

I found that this lure retriever is so effective and will give it a 98% retrieve rate, as with everything in life there is a weakness the one thing that the Retriever cant defeat is a Gill Nett, once you get snagged up in one of those you can kiss your lure goodbye or be crazy like me and dive in with a knife and go cut your favourite Crank out of there.

Thanks Ras - I also use one but always struggle with what to do with the free line at the end of the lure retriever. Mine paid for itself in the first trip out.

I agree 100%, I have two different types of lure retrievers that is tied onto a marker bouy so that it will not be lost if it falls overboard. The best one I have was bought at Bassworld a couple of yers ago and it paid for itself withing a few short months.

Welcome to the site Johan and well done on your results so far in the BETT. I don't fish cranks much but can imagine that a lure retriever can be a very useful tool to keep handy.

Yip a lure retriever works like a bomb, I tied the line of mine to marker, easy to roll the line up and even if it goes overboard it will un-roll from the marker without taking the marker down.

Yo Ninja that is a fine... bringing up the pain and anguish of loosing a new lure retriever the first time I ever used it...

OK so I didn't tie the string to the retriever... at that price they should have tied the string themselves! Sheeezzz!

A lure retriever is definitely a must have on any bass fisherman’s boat.
I've probably saved more than 200 lures in my few years of tournament angling if not more.
To be truly successful with a crankbait you have to throw it in the ugly stuff and you will get caught up pretty often When you are scared of loosing your baits you don't throw it where you need to, the lure retriever gives you that confidence to push your luck
