I want to take my 13 year old son on a bassfishing weekend and I need contact details for paraplegic friendly fishing spots with accomodation anywhere in South Africa. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Pinetree

Welcome to the website once again. I hope you are finding it helpful Big Grin

In the Cape, near Stellenbosch there is a nice place to go fishing with accommodation and very accessible water. It is Wiesenhof Wild Park. The venue is great for a family and the fishing can be excellent but challenging from time to time.

You can view their website at the following address www.wiesenhof.co.za

I am sure the other members from around the country will give you some great venues to visit. Good luck and let me know if you ever visit Cape Town.
Sometimes the fishing is so bad not even the liars catch anything!!!!

Hi Pinetree? what province are you looking at? there are very few paraplegic friendly fishing spots around now that I think about it but I would say the answer is to put your son on a boat. If the weather is calm and pleasant then he could sit in a chair on the back of the boat quite comfortably and fish.

I agree Robfisher, a boat could work well. What area do you want to fish in Pinetree?

Wiesenhof in the cape will be ideal for your son, just like bm said.

A boat will be the best idea so that your son could sit comfortably and fish, i take my hat off to your son trying to fish under his circumstances!!!

Well done and keep us posted on what the outcome will be.

Hi pinetree, vasfontein isnt to far from Midrand. I am not sure what facilities they have but you should call Isak and find out if they can accomodate. Here are his details.
I am sure they will be able to accomodate as I have seen pictures of ppl fishing from wheel chairs there.

Let us know the outcome, so we can let others know.

Vasfontein is close to rooiwal power station
Take old Warmbath road past rooiwal power station turn right(from pta side) to soshanguve follow road vasfontein bass estate will be on your righthand side.
Call Isak 072 971 4790

There are quite a few active members in Gauteng, if we have a better idea of what you are looking for, we should be able to help.

Hi Pinetree,

I think a big detail, from what I can make out from the posts is, do you have a boat ot are you looking to fish from the edge????

Gents up in that area.... try think of places that might have jetties to make easier to get in and out of a boat if there is one, or jetties to fish off.....

Hi Guys. Thanks for all the replies. We will be testing the fishwaters during the December school holidays. Will let you guys know what happened. Does anyone know what the fishing at Rietvleidam in Irene, Pta, is like?

Sorry pinetree I dont. no boats are allowed there not even kick boats or canoes, it is a bird sanctuary or nature reserve.

Rietvlei dam is papgooiers heaven and normally very crowded. There used to be a healthy bass population, smallmouth and largemouth, but they were severely depleted a few years ago.
