Ideal Pressure (QNH)

Can anyone give us the ideal baromic pressure (hpa I think) for best fishing results.

Pomerob:- anywhere, as long as it's dropping. But as for Inanda, it doesn't matter, rising, falling, hot, cold, mid-day, night...anytime - and you will catch.

Barometric or atmospheric pressure is the weight per unit of the total mass of air above a given point. A barometer measures the pressure the total mass air exerts on that particular location. This pressure is measured in units of millibars ranging form 960 to 1,050, or in inches on a scale of 28.5 to 31.00.

Surely there is a prefered level between this 960 and 1050 that is more condusive to fishing than say the bottom or top end?????? Do fish move deeper when the pressure drops or do they move to the shallows.

I am looking for some science here.

THAT'S what affects the fishing. I thought everyone knew that but how does atmospheric pressure affect the fish??????

I wish I could fish Inanda every weekend Fishton but alas we have to make do with Gauteng waters and cold front after cold front.

They dont need to google, they have swim bladders that are very sensitive to the atmospheric pressure (or so I am told) that tell them what is going on with the weather. Just wish I knew what they were being told by there super swim bladder computers.

When I was still at the coast I did make up a chart and fished everyday
for a entire month after work. And what I did find is that when the
barometer is between 1015 millibars and 1017 millibars I was always
catching fish, and when the pressure starts to drop but not to fast I get
fish just before the coldfront hits.

I don't know if that was just luck but you guys can test it and see if that
pressure is the magic dinner bell :lol:

Looking at my little fishing barometer it has 3 sections? Poor fishing, Good fishing and Great fishing? and the Great fishing is the region from 1006 to 1028mb.

Where can i get a nice unit?? I believe that having a unit like this will make a bid difference to the success of your fishing!

Any new comments on barometric pressure ? some say best fishing is when it rises others say when dropping.

Is there any site on the Internet where one can actually monitor rise and fall of barometric pressure over a period of time?

PDV, since I originally posted this question the only thing I have learnt with certainty is that before a cold front the barometric pressure normally drops and the fishing is good. On the converse immediatly after a cold front the barometric pressure rises and typically the fish have lock jaw for a couple of days after a cold front.

Some of the best fishing I have had has been after a period of stable high pressure

maybe my normally logical brain is'nt so logical after all :-? If you have had a steady period of high pressure, surely you will be on the cusp of a drop in pressure which is what we are saying is a good fishing time :-? :-?

Are you just agreeing with the rest of us??
