Anybody got any experience on Nagle Dam? I want to give this dam a go but would be interested to know how it fishes. Any security issues? Tips on lures/areas to fish. I believe that one can launch a boat but sneaker motor only. Are there decent facilities at the dam for a braai etc?

Hi Millpond? it?s been a while since we fished there? we used to fish there before we got a boat and were tied to the fishing from the sides? we caught every time we were there even in the freezing cold but none over 1Kg.

It?s very isolated? we never had a problem but we were always next to our car at all times.

I had heard that sneaker power only was allowed but I do remember someone saying you can use the main motor but the whole dam is a no wake zone? but I?m not sure. There are grass areas etc but I nevewr paid attention to braai facilites etc because I prefer to fish and eat a roll on fly as it were.

I would rather fish Inanda any day? or even Albert?s.

Hi Millpond

I was in PMB the other day and decided to stop at Nagel Dam on my way back to Durban to see for myself what it is like. The roads were bad very bad about 5 km before the dam. There were a lot of no fishing signs all over on the side of the dam , and the only place where you were allowed to fish was at the picnic area. The braai's were diry and the grass long. I decided that like Mr robfisher I will stick to Inanda , Shongweni & Albert Falls.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I can't fish Inanda this weekend (nor do I want to after last Saturday's dissapointing effort) because of the SABAA fishoff two weeks later and since I only have a half day on Saturday, I am going to give the place a go anyway. Watch this space for photo's of the hogs that I catch there Big Grin

I have actually fished Shongweni twice before with a float tube and I am keen to fish it again. I just like to try new spots - kind of like playing different golf courses. One of the many reasons why I love this sport!

Hi Millpond

I used to fish Nagle a lot when I lived down in Durban. The best spots are on the opposite side of the dam. When you are at the picnic spots with the dam wall on your left you have to get to the other side. There is a tunnel running along the dam wall which is the shortest route. I wouldn't fish there on my own though. Security might be an issue.

I have had some excellent days of fishing there. Best lures to use is the good old plastic worm. Caught my personal best there as well.

Danie, thanks for the tips. I am going to fish it with a boat but will definitely try your spot accross the wall.

I don't think I've fished Tuckers but I have fished quite a few dams down the South Coast in the Paddock area. They have an annual competition covering about 25-30 farm dams in the area. I am planning to fish the next one (March 2007 I think)
