GOEDERTROUW OCT 14

Got up at 02:00, yip that early. We wanted to get to Goedertrouw at first light which we did as we were on the water before 05:00!

We have heard about the top water action near the dam wall area in the mornings and could not wait to send out the Zaras and Poppers. What a disappointment, not one take. I was the first to change lures and landed a nice Goedies rat of about 1.6kg on my first cast using a fluke watermelon seed. Warren could not resist the temptation and changed to, hold on, a Jig. Don’t ask me why he did as I have never seen him fishing with a jig, maybe it’s because of Rob’s report the other day of Inanda. It turned out to be his most successful lure of the day. He had so many takes on it that I also changed to one but got zip. Perhaps the color he used was right for the conditions, brown skirt with a watermelon trailer. He lost two very nice fish right at the boat whilst using the jig though! Oh I must mention this, not one fish were netted as Warren and I have a standing ruling now for the last couple of months that all fish must be lip landed. Even my 4.11kg was safely lip landed although I was tempted to call for the net. Call us crazy but for some reason it just gives so much more satisfaction when doing the lip landing thingy.

I had a look at the “live” report last night and I must say if would forgive people for thinking that this was a situation of “one cast one fish”. I can assure that was not the case. I’ll go as far as to say that if I turned the clock back to some two years ago when I just started fishing I would most properly have blanked yesterday! The guys on the only other boat on the dam stopped and had a chat to us at about 13:30. I could see the disbelieve on there faces when we told them what our catch register was as they have not landed on single fish at that time. The bite was soft and slow. Just about every bite was so soft and gentle you could hardly feel it. We were not sure if it was a bump on a structure or an actual fooshie, you had to be wide awake and on high alert to get a hook set. We also had to fish slow, very slow similar to winter conditions. Not one fish hit the lure hard and ran with it.

If you take into account that we fished for 11 hours non stop and Warren totaled 14 fish and I totaled 13 and yes there were some real rats of about 700g among those totals, then we only averaged one decent fish every two hours. Not complaining just saying! But that’s Goedies for you, you know you going to get decent fish, you must just be prepared to find them and have the patients to wait for them. As for finding them, it was very similar to the last outing, on the main lake points very close to the side with the exception of the honey hour we had from 14:00 – 15:00 at the dam wall.

One of my most, if not the most, memorial fishing days ever! :blue-cool:

Thanks for the report back Norks!!!! :blue-smile:

As usual, you and Warren made piggies of yourselves AGAIN!!!!! Looks like you guys had a blast and although you might have had a 2hr to a good fish ratio, it is better than our other dams that seem to be 22 outings per good fish ratio!!!! :blue-badgrin:

Well done and I soooooo look forward to going to that dam again some time.... GOEDIES ROCKS IN A BEEEEEEG WAY!!!!!!!!!!!! :blue-badgrin: :blue-lol:

Norkie, well done :blue-lol: at goedies..... quite right we never mentioned time fish ratio, this depends on the foooooshies, my last outing (27/9) at Goedies, I fished reaction DLN and Spinner only and Jos used plastic's. My ratio was 4 keepers by 11am and then 3 hours with nada... (Jos did well with his plastic's) after that +/- every 2 hours to get to my 5 fish of 18.52kg bag :blue-biggrin: for the day, total fish for me that day was only 7, Jos got more, also in the past at Goedies... fished from 6am to 3pm for my first fish :blue-doubt: (3kg)ending with 3 fish for the day :blue-neutral:
