Riprap the american shad needs passage to the sea to grow big and come back to the rivers to spawn. Another species was introduced to Goedies.
I do not say that american shad were not released in Goedies ,but they would not have survived.

Thanks CBC. A similar case with freshwater mullet in Binfield dam in the EC. Only has Northerns, no floridas plus the usual carp, bluegill etc but the guys were accrediting the bigger avg size of the bass to the freshwater mullet as a baitfish whereas they can only spawn in saline water and then move back into the fresh so obviosly as a baitfish they would die out anyway, similar to the american shad.

Are these then threadfin?

Never caught one but after having a good look at it I can now see why the sexy shad works so well at Goedertrouw.
