Inanda Dam

There is a flyer being handed out at Inanda dam with the following message…

Dear Visitor

Umgeni Water and the Department of Forestry are conducting a study on the different species of fish at Inanda Dam. Kindly leave any fish you catch, especially bass, at the reception office for the study to be successful.

Thanking you in advance for your co-operation

Fishton is on the issue as he knows the chap in-charge of Inanda and he is looking into the issue. He did call the chap but there was no real information forthcoming… but John’O has not been known to be deterred by the odd obstacle in his way.

More info will follow as we find out what the F^%$^%#^ is going on… if you have heard anything or know anything please post the info here…

The @#$%^&* who wrote that deserves to be fed to the bass, surely not anybody in their right mind will comply?

This is where people like us need to stand up and be counted, what about arranging some emergency fliers to be handed out counteracting that bull and explaining the benefits of bass to the ecomomy etc, etc. I'm willing to contribute financially towards the costs, just need somebody up there to make it work.

Ken Ansile phoned me a few minutes ago to ask for a copy of the flyer… he said he had a missed call from me… but I never called him… but anyway Ken is frothing at the mouth as well and is making calls as well.

Fishton, you're one of the good guys, I've rewritten the post so that the object of my wrath is more clearly defined :blue-biggrin:

Doesn't sound very officially worded to me. And it doesn't make any sense. Has to be a hoax. Maybe one of the locals is an aspiring fishmonger? :blue-question:

I think we're all in for a bit of a shock today regarding this matter. It's government level stuff. :blue-shock:

So why don't we turn the BFSA tour into a multi species event and watch the authorities as we dump hundereds of kilogrammes of barbel and carp in the main office :blue-badgrin:
Seriously though, this is a bit worrying. :blue-doubt:

No, it still doesn't make sense... Do they not mean all fishermen must fill in a catch register or something to that effect?

First of all, 95% of bass fishermen practice catch and release. So they would be dumb to expect us to suddenly start killing our catch.

Secondly, picture the logistics involved if were to comply. Where the heck would they store the hundreds of bass caught over a weekend? Did they suddenly have industrial deep freezers installed? I think not. Imagine the smell! What the heck would they do with all the fish? Unless they burned them or something.

Did anyone fish inanda today (Warren)? Anything to report?

Is there any futher info on this topic, it sure is bugging me..... :blue-confused:

The story we have extracted from the powers that be so far is that they want to analyse the fish for traces of bacteria. But until we get some real clarification we will continue to run with conspiracy theories!

You said it, that is more than likely exactly what they would do :blue-sad:

I popped into Compleat Angler today and spoke to Neill, he heard that they just wanna do some tests on fish as they have found a couple of dead fish in the dam..... I'm not sure how many they need to do the test etc , but lets hope we can get some clarification soon :blue-doubt:
