Policing at Inanda

Some really good news... Two Slip-Weigh Basscasters members are “Msinsi Officials” now with a third one about to be authorised. Last week one of them ordered 25 boats off the water for various infractions... most starting with no wake zone violations... they then gave the official lip and further inspections showed no Msinsi registration disk or life jackets etc and they were told to leave the water.

It’s a voluntary service and I will have more information on the system on Thursday after the Wednesday night club meeting.

This is a VERY good thing! We can make a difference!

I will have full info on Thursday after the Wednesday night meeting... but what I can tell you is that they have filled in forms and had an interview with officials from Msinsi and have been appointed.

Well I hope they have a harpoon to shoot the other boat and pull it in. It's a good thing but I would expect lots of confrontation and more than a couple of punch up's

It’s possible but they did get 25 craft off the dam without a physical incident. They are armed with a siren and official stuff so people would be really doff not to comply.

Nope... no clever drunks... but I have seen a few doff ones. Be that as it may... the policing has started and will continue and if there is a physical altercation the offender will find themselves behind bars. In everything we do there will always be a few bad apples but that won’t stop the team cleaning up the dam. And if you know the two chaps and the third one to be officiated then you will realise that getting physical will certainly not be in the perpetrators interest... they will get more than a little hurt.

This glass is more than half full!

This is good news indeed, I hope it works!! This could become an example for other dams around the country to follow.

It's about time. I would happily volunteer to put a shift or two in per month.

They need to start checking for spearfisherman and to start checking boat well and hatches for people removing fish as well.

Rob if it saves our favourite dam, tell them they've got one extra volunteer :blue-wink:

They have also been monitoring and raiding poachers using gill nets… they are working with the SAP as well on the project… they have to use the SAP because last year they kicked down a few doors and confiscated boats etc and got into a little trouble.

Recently they confiscated a couple of boats and a lot of gill nets from a house they had been monitoring. They also removed a large gill net from the dam and the net included barbel, carp, tilapia (big ones) and some bass! So much for bass not being caught in the gill nets.

If it's got fins and gills a Gill net will catch it :blue-evil:

We witnessed first hand what uncontrolled gill netting can do to a dam when we tried to fish at Mbabatu dam, it is a bleak picture!!
