Jerkbaits

I'm curious to find out how many people use Jerkbaits and how often.

The reason I ask is that I hear very little from people about them and was wondering if it was a lack of knowledge about the bait.

I was thinking of doing a few "How To" articles on different baits and thought that the Jerkbait would be a good place to start.

What do you guys think?

I use them maybe every third or fourth time I fish !! I have caught some fish on them but not enought to have any real confidence in them !!
Some tips on when and where to fish them would help!!

I love fishing jerkbaits, a specific deep diving suspending one from Rapala in particular. It's the one "hard" lure that consistently produces for me over cranks and spinnerbaits etc.

I learned it from my buddy Jason who got me into bass fishing. He swears by it and probably fishes jerkbaits as much as plastics.

Also, jerkbaits are just so much fun to catch with! :blue-lol:

robf, flukes, sluggo's and hard jerkbaits are all family!
I don't fish alot but use jerkbaits every time i fish.
Go for it Shannon, we can use some tips.

I love fishing jerk baits! They are really deadly in cooler water, as long as you're patient enough to have a long pause in the retrieve. My favorite is the clown color (gold/red/white) in the cooler water. In warmer water I use more flukes (white) than jerk baits (blue/silver). I seem to have much better luck when I keep it on top of the water and break the surface at least every other twitch.

Go for it Shannon. I'm mostly fish soft plastics, and haven't experimented all that much with anything else. A "How to" section will be great!

I find the really work well in small farm dams.. baby rainbow and broken back kisk ass the best

I have one jerkbait that i love throwing and always give it a bash when I need a fishIt is the lucky craft befreezin slender and it rocks!! I think I have caught a fish on it every time I have tried it. The action is just wicked as it has a jointed body and suspends. You should really try one...

I normally throw a jerkbait around lillies, outside of structure and through grass bed pockets, all in shallower water around 2-6 foot. The retrive I use varies from just reeling straight in but quite slowly and the twitch and pause retrive. Most of the time the twitch and pause produces the fish.

That's my R2.50 worth...

Thanks Shannon that would be great. I do use them but not that often, the one I do use is a countdown and use it as an alternative to a suspending dln or dd22 when the fish arent aggressive and I wanna bring it back slowly.

Oh well its back to the tackle shops again! Actually I should check my tackle cupboards at home because I’m sure I have some of these in stock! I guess I should start packing my crank tackle box’s now…. I have the weightless fluke down pat and now I need to tackle (excuse the pun) another discipline now…
