Salmo, if I was in the Cape, I would definitely consider a bigger boat to handle the wind and waves. I've got a Viper which is about 19'6" which is ideal (ask Sven Hilland who has one down there) or there is the Tornado at about 18'6", both made by Ruffnek. Rebel do make a 582, but I PERSONALLY wouldn't go for it.

I also heard that the Rebel 530 series had a problem with the original bottom deck mould. :blue-shock:

Howzit Terminator.Has Sven ever told you what happened to him and his Viiper on Brandvlei in strong winds?
I was there on my boat, battling to get out ,he lost a lot of equipment.I dont think there is a bass boat that can handle the very strong winds down here.I have been with the guys on boats supposed to be built for wind, it is not a pleasure.A 27 footer with a 12 foot beam might help.

Make no mistake, the wrong conditions will make any boat unsafe. All I'm saying is that if you are going to be in a situation that could be bad, have the best equipment to handle it. I've speared a wave on Albert Falls and lost equipment, but it could have been avoided and I'm glad I wasn't on a smaller boat. (but if I was, I may not have put myself into a bad situation!)

I cannot agree with u more, the bigger the better.Piloting is another factor.I yet have to see anybody handling rough water like Anre de Villiers.Maybe there are better and I would love to learn from them.Wayne u are fishing competitive and need to get there in a hurry even in bad conditions. I dont need to, tha tis why I am happy with a 17'6".
I think the Viper,Renegade and Tornado are very very nice. My wife and I need to launch, pilot and load our boat and that is why we bought a 17'6" I am confident that our boat is equipped to handle fairly rough waters.I will not go out if it is unsafe, not in a Triton,Ranger or any other bass boat, they are not built for big waves.

Hi Salmo. Be careful of the camera boet. I know of very few factories that get a warm fuzzy feeling when being asked if photos can be taken of their processes and products while in the manufacturing stages. I do however think that you will be impressed by Rebel boats. They are built solid and are by no means your bottom of the line performer either. I have been on a few and I think they are extremely good value. Good luck and enjoy the factory visit.

Salmo, how was your Rebel factory trip?

Had an informative visit to the Rebel factory on Monday, they weren't thrilled with the idea of my taking a camera in so no pics unfortunately. Seeing the various craft side by side was helpful, I don't think that I'll be going for the 582, it's a pretty big boat. I plan to purchase the boat only, fully plumbed and on a trailer but will move the outboard from my existing craft, (a 115 HP Mariner), as well as the trolling motor. I think that with a 115HP motor the 582 would be seriously underpowered, another reason for opting for the 532 which is big enough for the waters that I fish and my tow vehicle will manage it with ease.

I don't know if it's appropriate to mention prices in this forum, if it's ok I'm glad to do so, I'd appreciate feedback from those more experienced than myself in such matters. I think that I've got a pretty good price though. Now just to get the funds together so that they can start manufacturing the boat in January, sadly it's out of the question for this year, the factory will close down over the holiday period.

The only way we can compare apples with apples is by how much we pay for them, if you have no problem letting everyone know how much you are paying then it is in the benifit of everyone. We have to keep the boat manufactures honest somehow :blue-biggrin:
