New Mapping (Beta)

Hi All? we are taking our mapping system we do for Brabys to a new level and we need people to test the site and give feedback and see if you can break it.

Go to www.streetmaps.co.za and search for Inanda Dam. You will see 3 options on the right? select the ?areas? column and click on Inanda Dam and then on the map click on the ?SAT? button. Then click on the POINTS button.

Have a look at the lists of dams? there are a lot in SA! I wonder how may hold bass!

What an excellent site. I've used google earth up to now, but this is much better.

Now we just need topo on top of this, wishfull thinking. 8-)

I was speaking to Shandon about topo maps for local use. It seems that volume is the key to get the Navionics software updated to include South Africa. Loads of people seem to be saying they would buy software but nowhere is their a collective "Yes Please" going on. If anyone, totally central to the bass fishing scene can coordinate a strong "yes please" and pass it on to Lowrance or someone in that part of the industry, maybe they will consider topo maps? Does demand meet their supply requirements? Who knows.....

The Navionics hot maps are compatible with Lowrance, Humminbird, Eagle, Furono and more...

Topo is on the plan of things to do... it's going to take a little while but it's on the agenda!

Out of curiosity, how do they create a detailed topo map of an area this size? Do they use a satelite to ping the land and water like we use our fishfinders?

Nope as far as I know they use human land surveyors... well for the contours etc they currently have they used humans... there may well be a new gadget to do it now... we are not GIS experts but rather software developers who play in the mapping arena! ;-)

It's a site with loads of potential, I won't be giving up on Google Earth just yet though, much of the Western Cape doesn't yet have satellite coverage on this one. I guess that it takes a while for our northern countrymen to realise that there is life south of the Vaal River ;-)

When it does it will be a great tool.
