A handy tip I picked up on another site - when putting fresh line on a reel there is sometimes a tendency for the line to stack up more on one side of the spool or the other. One way to avoid this is to ensure that the spool tension knob is tightened sufficiently so that there is no side-to-side play of the spool. This is especially true on new reels where the reel has not been set yet.

This never occurred to me, I've always tilted the reel one way or the other to avoid stacking the line.
Occasionally I use words I don't fully understand to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Great tip Toadee, THANKS.
Also, ensure the knot on the spool and the line guide are aligned before you start spooling so it's straight on.
