It all started in South Korea...

South Korea...the land of Samsung, Kia, Kimchi and for me; Bass Fishing.

I grew up in George and use to go fishing with my old man. We just did the salt water thing since he grew up in Milnerton and use to go with Oupa to Cape Point quite often.

I worked in South Korea for almost 5 years and moved around lot. Eventually, I ended up in a small town in the south western part of Korea called Imsil. Imsil is famous for cheese and its Cheese Theme Park (nothing to write home about here - cheese was bland!). But Imsil also had a ton of rivers converging in the county and according to some local friends, Imsil was also famous for bass fishing.

So in August 2014, I asked a friend of mine to visit me from Seoul since he had been bass fishing for quite some time. Let's just say that this salt water boytjie had a few things to learn and I broke my first rod in had 2 hours in. But that did not break my spirit and I got into it and how this style of fishing worked. I watched a ton of YouTube videos and learnt quite a few things about bass fishing. I even started making my own videos, which you can see here:

I came back to South Africa for good in March of this year and tried doing some research on local spots. All I've found so far is Groenvlei (I don't own a boat!) and someone suggested I ask local farmers if I can fish their ponds.

So here I am. Willing to learn how South Africans fish bass and how things work here since I only know how bass fishing worked in South Korea.

I'm glad I've found this forum and I hope some members have some sound advise.

From mentioning Groenvlei I gather you must be back in southern cape area?

Just north of Oudtshoorn is Koos Raubenheimer dam which has clear water and great fishing

The first thing you need is some form of craft to get you on the water. A kickboat is a good start.

Some people get very protective over our little green friends so I would also work on a more gentle release in future. :blue-biggrin: Nice clips though.

I'd say bass fishing is bass fishing no matter were in the world you are just a few tweaks on time of year and patterns. Good luck.

Recently learnt that my old man has a canoe that I might use. I forgot about it. He built it almost 20 years ago from wood so he is very protective over it. Apparently it was some type of Native American design or something. Will post a video to see how it goes. If that does not work, my birthday is soon... :blue-wink:

Thanks for watching the videos. I actually never there was a way to release them until I recently watch a YouTube of 1Rod1ReelFishing. Will definitely work on that. Sorry guys...and fish!

Going to post another thread about bass in South Korea. Interesting story when compared to Western Bass fishing.
