Not bass this time, but Kurper

So I went fishing at techno Park, just for an hour. Picked up the fly rod and had no success for at least 40min. Tied on a dark brown woolly-bugger and went on on the first cast. man these fish are strong. With all the grass and weeds in the dam I had to put he brakes on the fish and sure enough it nearly straightened my hook. With the help from one of my friends we landed the fish and it was all smiles since that was much more fun than sitting in front of the books, studying for the exams.

It was not long till I hooked into another fish, this one gave me a run for my money and was off before I could even think of getting into the water to follow its path through the weeds. Oh well, my mood was high so I tried again and BAM on I went with another. This time, before he could snag me in the weeds I jump into the pond and followed my line until it was me, the fish and some open water. The fight was on, and I mean it was a great fight. Landed the fish and while taking some photos, my rod touched the electric fence and BAM, it sent some amps and volts through my body.

It was a great trip, had some fun, even with the small bass in the ponds.

nope, you just drive in and fish. The first dam is full of lily-pads and the one next to the Protea Hotel is the one with all the Kurper.


Note the fence. It has some volts running through it.

Yes, teckno park in Stellenbosch. Caught them on fly with 1.2kg leader.

So today I went for some more action at Techno Park, Stellenbosch. Left res at 12:30 so I knew the fishing was going to be tough, although better than books and papers on material stiffness and resilient modulus.

As usual the Kurper were all along the sides of the dam not wanting to take the fly. I managed to get this picture of two males in close action.



After some time and me starting to get frustrated with myself and the fish that did not want to take any fly, I managed to hook one. Been watching the bugger sitting below a lily-pad, waiting for something to pass. So, that is what I did, popped the fly on his head and on he went. Again an amazing fight and I landed the beaut.



The bugger was relatively weak after the long fight, and it was extremely warm so I jumped into the dam to set the fish back to come haunt me some other day.

All and all I caught some small bass. Saw the 3 huge karp in the dam and also spotted a bass of around 2.6-3kg. Yes it was a monster, although it would not even look at the flies I popped at him.

Janee, Ive managed to catch 2 of these strong fighters and it's true, they give a true run for your money, and your tackle! Going to try and catch some more tomorrow morning, and have a look see if I can hook one of those monster carp. I estimate the biggest one round 9kg's.

Stevo will be going tomorrow morning, I will not be there though, have to go do some lab work for my research. I will surely go there one day this week after 5 though, just have to see how the work is progressing.
