Fishing and Cows??

Came across this article on facebook. Will definately keep an eye on those cows next to the road in the future. Wonder how much truth there is to this "Cow Theory"? :blue-doubt:

Couple of quotes from the article:

“Whenever the cows in a pasture are standing, that means you are going to have a good day fishing!”

Almost without fail, if the cows were standing, it was a great day. If the cows were lying down, it wasn’t.

Falling pressure can have an effect on the digestion of cows. As the barometer drops, they get upset tummies, and have to lie down.

Fish respond to a falling barometer as well. Just like cows, they don’t like to be active in these times of falling pressure.

Capiez, I haven't opened the link yet but have always applied this principle and it has something to do with the moon position as well: If cattle ( & other livestock) are actively feeding in the area you are fishing then the fish are hunting and feeding as well. Conversely the opposite is also true.

I have always been under the impression that a falling barometer was good.

The chart below indicates the same.
Will have to keep a look out for the cows.

Always thought that when the barometer has peaked, fishing should be at a low and when the pressure is dropping or at a low fishing should be good.

People here in the Cape have often mad fun of me as I comment on the activity of cows as we go to a fishing venue.. :blue-smile: My Dad in his fishing days many years ago, would almost postpone a trip if he found cows lying down...to this day,I still look at the cows for an idea of how the day might be... :blue-smile:

I've always experienced my best fishing with a falling or low barometer, especially if there is a lightening storm on the way.

I am a animal nutritionist, and more specifically a large ruminant nutritionist.

On a day to day cycle there is very little difference in a cows digestion patterns, unless you as farmer screw it up. Warm weather can lead to lower intakes and destabalize the rumen. Barometric pressure....I dont know so well. There is huge factor influencing if cows lay down or not, of which intake is the biggest. Barometric pressure has very little, if any influence on it.

If cows are placed on pasture after milking in the morning they will ALL graze. So if you pass them then you would get one prediction. If they were supplied with enough pasture 50-60% of them would be lying down and ruminating by 10h00. Pass the same patch of pasture again and you would get a 100% different prediction.

Rather just go fishing anyway...

August, I agree with you, you are a fundi after all. But what about the moon's influence - there is no high/low tide visible in this case??

I firmly believe in the moon phases, it does not mean you should not go fishing during the wrong phases, merely adapt your strategy as to where the fish will be be during a specific moon/sun phase.
About the cows, I dont know.

Ryanie - it's simple boet.
Even award winning stud bulls don't stick with only one cow all the time, they move on to greener pastures. When this happens, then as Hawkeye said, some cows may jump over the moon!!
