Sunglasses - Steamer - 10-10-2014
I wear specs full time & use a polaroid clip-on set-up, which is a bit heavy & cumbersome.
Just wondering what other 4 i's wearers use.
Is there some sort of large polaroid safety glasses type of thing available, that can be worn over my specs?

A possibility Madfish, but they would have to be auto darkening as well. The clip-on's do work well and are fairly inexpensive, so I'll just persevere.

A year or so ago I decided to get a really decent pair of prescription Polaroid multi-focals at the same time I got my new glasses. They cost me an arm and a leg (Oakleys) but it was the best money I ever spent!
I have had glasses for 35 odd years and sunglasses have always been an issue for me and I have tried clip on's and wrap around Cocoons and non of them are really practical...
Get a pair of prescription Polaroids!

Thanks for reminding me Rob, I had a pair of multifocal Okley's for cycling a few years ago, I'll dig em out & check if I can still put a line through an eye!

oakley prescription polarized sunglasses. not cheap, around 5k. But great for fishing and driving.

Steamer, I went and purchased a pair of snow bee sunglasses for around R200 took it to speck saves and they replaced the lenses with a set of prescription polarized lenses for R1600 best thing I could have done. Sight fished with them at inanda nationals and had no issues seeing fish.

I don't often comment, but this was also a issue for me. I wanted polarized sunglasses, without the price tag. Luckily i'm on a pretty good medical aid. I found sunglasses i like (has to have afairly flat lens) - i chose oakley holbrook. Asked to have my perscription lenses put into those. When completed, asked for the polarized lenses back. Then purchased a couple packs of those super soft disposable contact lenses (luckily they don't bother me at all). When i fish i pop pout the perscription lenses, and stick in the polarized, for work vice versa. Over a couple years, i now have a few pairs of the same glasses, with perscription lenses, and sunglasses, and transistion types... The best is still, to use contacts with polarized, and then take out the contacts and put on normal glasses, when i get home. Best thing about all of the above is that it was all covered by my medical aid savings...

I now have two pairs of Oakley prescription polarized glasses. One set made about three years ago and the second pair last year, my medical aid paid for most of the cost.
My optometrist is also big into bass and the President of our club so I know I get the best specs from him.
I look after both pairs like gold.

I use a "fitover" spec from Ocean. Been using them now for a couple of years, comfortable, light, fog free and fit like a clove. Best thing of all it is great value for money, about R300 so if you step on them or through them in the water with the bass it is not a train smash. :blue-biggrin:

Prescription sunnies are great till you lose 3 pairs in 8 months at 3500 bucks a pop. Recently purchased a pair of cocoons for a grand. They are made to go over your specs and are available in 7 styles. Fantastic product. Imported by Brian roos opticians. PM me for any more info.

I am also a glasses wearer but 7 years ago got into contact lenses and now I buy whatever sunglasses I want. Can be a little bit of a mission but well worth it to be able to wear the best and not compromise. My 2c :blue-wink:
