Amidst chaos, a thought suddenly ricocheted off the outer extremities of my noodle and since it bounced, I want to bounce it off you guys.
There is so much thought nowadays on mentors, mentoring and mentorship. It seems to be creeping in all over and becoming a catch phrase excuse for certain misfortunes and dealings.
So, to cut a short story long, here's one for the brands that have brand ambassadors. Try something new in the way of paying it forward to your customers and the fishing community upon which you have butter for your roosterkoeks.
Brand ambassadors are your face at the coal front. Why don't they take a youngster or a newbie under a mentorship role to improve the sport and your image. Hell, why don't some of the top anglers present clinics to fishermen and tell the truth of what hook is the best in their opinion as it is public knowledge that brand ambassadors are not married to the brand. The amount of brands and new tackle coming onto the market is mind boggling and quite frankly scary when it comes to finances if you try to stay ahead of the pack.
Just a bounce, as I stated so don't pull out the voorlaaiers yet!

One thing I really liked was the lessons/classes that Chris Greenland AKA FightingFrogFighter (JHB) gave to people who would attended the class. Ranging from young anglers to older anglers.
Would really like to have that in the Western Cape. Would be nice to learn a few things from the best.

Excellent post Rip and a season or two ago we actually did organise a TackleWare party where a lot of very good weather info was shared by Jim as well as very good session on plastics manufacturing by Smurf and Nutt.
A lot of new products was also showcased and if I remember correctly it was almost the first public showing of Ol' Big Mouth wares. Outdoors 365 sponsored the events with some freebies as well. BM has his fancy long sleeve T-shirt there and I think they all but sold out so hungry everyone was for some bass related kit.
I know the boys and girls up north do this from time to time but I think we are long overdue a good one here in the Western Cape.
Will have a chat with a few of the "main manne" and see what we can come up with. Only problem is you EC boys are a little for us to combine forces.

Love this idea!
As a youngster I fished a 'Pro-Am' event with one of the Garden Route bassmasters at Impofu. It was a 2 day event. The stuff I learnt at that event I still use today.
Sadly I cannot remember the gentlemans' name but if memory serves me right we made a good 3rd place. He caught a huge amount of fish - I caught 1.
Mentorship is a GREAT idea!

As a "newbie" I think this would be a great idea,
Every now and then in KZN there are a ' day on the water with ???' Something I am always eager to try and get my hands on.

Sure Suburban would be happy for us to use the venue. Will check. Any idea of a rough date? If it was say a Thursday before a classic or mt, the easterns ous could make a weekend of it?

I refer to the MT's that are held in the Cape,and specifically,the ones held at Clanwilliam or Bulshoek Dam.The MT is held on the Saturday,but the majority of boaters stay over to fish the next day just for fun.Why not arrange a situation where a newbie hops on the boat for the second day's fun fishing ? Get the names of the newbies that are interested and have them draw their 'ride' for the day,get them to chat to their skipper the night before (make it early as wheels can sometimes fall off ) so they can prepare some tackle,put their kit in the boat,discuss where they are going to start,what lures they are going to throw etc etc.As casual as possible with no pressure of 'winning'...everything is just for fun and to learn something.

Geez, dont you chaps read or remember?
Roy was/is in the process of arranging such a day at TWK for the pro staffers/brand ambassadors to do their thing in lectures etc. The main reason of doing it at a pond is to then go out and try it once you have had the info session.
Most, if not all the branded staffers agreed to jump in and help.
So there is something on the cards, but I am not certain how far it got. Perhaps Roy could shed some light?

I remember JFZ - Everybody was super excited.. And then nothing happened. But I agree with Smurf and Rip. Get the guys on the boat - Show them how its done!
(Been fishing bass for 20+ years but would still want to jump on a boat with the "pro's" - or anybody that half knows their stuff - There is so much to learn!)

My Point: The brands and not the ambassadors should initiate something of sorts which shows that they appreciate the buttered roosterkoeks and their agents on the ground, whether competitive or not, pay something forward on their behalf.
