While off the shelf flies work, the enjoyment of catching a fish on a fly you have made yourself is priceless. Each to his own, I suppose!

Catching fish is my passion, I dont see anyone trying to carve up a bit of balsa wood to make their own cranks Idea emm I think that would be easier than tying flies. I also enjoy my boat but that don't mean I can build one or would even enjoy trying.

I only caught 1 small bass on my homemade popper, and have lost it when we moved house (or someone took it)

The biggest hassle with the popper was finding screw in eyes small enough, to hold the hooks to the lure.
