River bassing Posted by: sharky - 01-31-2006, 03:20 PM - Forum: Bass Fishing In General - Replies (10)

Hi guys

The farm where I'll be staying this weekend's dam is almost non-existant due to the heat we've been experiencing. I'll be going to a river at Mount Ceder, which is close by. Apparently there is a huge number of bass that's impacting on the local fish species, so they'll be to happy if I can take one or two home!

Now the obvious questions are: Is the bass behaviour of river bass and dam bass the same (their usual hideouts around structure, etc)? What type of lures do I use? I assume lure choice depend on the depth of the river? Should I choose different tactics for slow moving and fast moving water?

Any advice will help!
Thanks

Fish Attractants Posted by: Guest - 01-30-2006, 03:08 PM - Forum: Must Haves! - Replies (8)

I would be interested to hear if and what "mooties" are used by users. I use a chartreuse garlic "Spike It" to dip the tails on worms and Galic spray & cook for my skirt based lures.

Do they work? Do fish savour the flavour?

I would also like to know why Garlic is so popular, why not Strawberry.

How many of you seasoned bass anglers still tie on an inline spinner?

Maps of Dams? Posted by: Guest - 01-24-2006, 04:07 PM - Forum: Bass Fishing Waters - Replies (59)

Where can I find topo maps of the major comp dams? Especially the less obvious ones like Misverstand dam in Western Cape. I heard there is a spot there that can seriously damage your gearbox.

Is it possible that we can start a section like this on the site? A short summary of accommodation at the various dams would also help.

Hi all

If it is okay with bassmaster, I think it would be nice if we can add some images of our "own creation" flies and advice on how to use them in this forum topic.
