As much as I love this sport, this is the reason I don't do the comp thing anymore. I saw to many friendships going down the drain when money is involved as prizes. No matter how hard one try to organize a near as possible perfect comp, there will always be complaints.

Howzit Guys

After yesterday’s events , I am sticking to my original decision and will no longer be part of the organising of the BFSA KBT, as of yesterday I am just a bass fisherman like the rest of you and will keep my complaining down to a minimal as I know what it’s like trying to organise these events.

There is one thing I would like to address though and this was brought to my attention by a few anglers while I was still an organiser and now that I am just a normal angler I guess I can voice my concern on public forum.

The concern is the abuse of the trolling motor benefit

The complaints that were lodged had to do with the angler in question leaving the launch before the allotted time penalty time was over in this case it was 20 min and there are witnesses to confirm this.

A few anglers also complained that they were being cut of as they were heading to certain spots by this individual.

Now we like to promote good sportsmanship and this does not seem to be the case here so this needs to be addressed by the new organisers.

The rules state the following:

2.4. An electric motor may only be used by prior permission of the organisers.
2.4.1. Said permission may be granted at the discretion of the organisers if an angler has a valid medical condition that does not allow him the full use of his lower torso without discomfort, such as knee, ankle or kidney problems etc.
2.4.2. Anglers using electric motors will be subject to time penalty resulting in them starting later than the official start time and finishing earlier than the official weigh in time. On large dams, like Poortjies, Clanwilliam and Bulshoek, the time penalty will be a 20 minutes each way and 10 minutes for the smaller dam. Said time penalties are subject to the organisers’ discretion and maybe amended at the Competition Briefing.

This is a rule that needs to be relooked as there are a few loopholes here.

Does a doctor’s letter from the previous season count for the next season? Injuries heal people go for operations etc. I find it strange that this very same angler did not use his trolling motor at the Clanwilliam KBT in March and managed to kick all over the dam without any discomfort or so it seemed. I guess he will argue the fact but I am not the only one with eyes.

I would suggest that the organising team address this and that a recent and original doctor’s letter from a reputable General Practitioner or specialist be presented and the full medical reason why the angler cannot use his lower torso for propulsion, It only seems fair to everyone else, And that the organisers use their own discretion as to allow it or not.

This is necessary as anglers feel this benefit is being abused and if the case damn unfair to all the guys that do the effort to kick where they want to be.

I look forward to the Clanwilliam KBT and I am sure the new organising team will do a sterling job I will gladly help you where I can with the finer details of what needs to be done regarding the sponsorships, accommodation and the scale etc. Do a handover!

Catch you guys on the water

ROY - sorry to hear your situation hasn't changed but good luck to the new organizers none the less.

boy, do I feel for Roy.

I know my name is still written in pencil around here; and I have never bobbed around in a KB ... but this is poor form.

Way I see it, Roy is being kicked in the balls for some change; when over all this time he has been the one that has given selflessly and given the sport so much value.

I see it like the TV ad: "winning a KBT team event: R5000; Roy's contribution to KBT: PRICELESS !!!!)

Sorry if I missed something.

Hi guys, thanks for the report back on the kick boat comp. Always nice to read and congrats to guys with the big fish. It's not easy to be convener of any comp or function and I take my hat off to you guys. I know there were rules to follow that was n slip up. Decision of the weather and point per fish. Maybe the organizers forget about the point per fish like they did it the last comp. Maybe they thought they were right to decide alone for a one day comp. Faults has been made and if the weather Gods was with them it would have change the whole topic.

The problem with a group com or function that goes wrong, the people look for guilty persons that could be hold responsible for the slip up. Afikaans praat hulle van is jy n man of n muis. Stand up and say, sorry guys, I or we made a mistake with point per fish. Sorry guys the weather prediction were wrong and maybe we should have had a captains meeting next time. Sorry guys we only use the weight of fish in this comp for points. There were still winners and I believed everybody fish to have full bag. Take the heat and move on, nobody's want your job with organizing the comps. Then this topic could have been 2 pages of positive report backs of their catches.

Roy for you just decided to quit, not nice. No angler just quit, pull the season thru bru. Have a moerse kick boat meeting on a Friday night before the comp at Clan and sort the rules out. My 2 cent

Thanks for your input Len but its easy to sit behind your computer read what is written here and have an opinionated reply when you actually have no clue what it is about you have never attended a KBT or organised one.

First of we were all born with mouths and we have the ability to ask questions so if you not sure about something ask but in the case of the KBTs its easier to keep quiet and when there is a issue let it build up and complain on public forum.

This was the first team event ever this had nothing to do with the scoring system for the season and this was said in a thread that it will be bag weights, funny how everything gets forgotten or people suddenly have selective memory when things don't go their way.

Please check thread below

There is a lot of if maybes and buts in you response no we did not forget the point system as there was never going to be one.

Concerning the cancellation of the second day and I will repeat this we looked at several different weather reports and local knowledge to base your decision.
I personally walked up to the guys and said this is what we thinking and most of the replies were " We are the organisers the decision lies with us" and these are the very guys that complained on the forum.

Rules:
1.6. The event can and will be shortened, postponed or cancelled due to unsafe water and weather conditions. Entrant's safety is paramount at all times.
1.8. The organiser’s decision is final.

You talk about the Afrikaans saying "is jy n man of n muis" well I can comfortably say im a Man as I have the balls to approach the situation directly like I am doing now I cannot say the same of some anglers unfortunately.
The Saturday evening I sat next to some of the guys that complained on this thread and shared many laughs yet not one had the guts to approach me and say anything they would rather moan amongst each other and then wait for the report back to voice their negative opinions " Nou vra ek jou wie is man of muis in die geval"

Apologising for the weather not turning out the way it was reported is not your fault its the weather we go on what reports tell us and the decision was made, that just the way it went down.

Unfortunately being and organiser of such events is very unrewarding and everyone expects there to be prizes, everyone expects the accommodation to be sorted out everyone expects and demands and when there is an issue they put you to the sword, don't get me wrong we are only human and we make mistakes and yes there will be complaints but in plain Afrikaans "jy maak nie n sambreel in n man se hol oop nie"

As for quitting, that's the way you see it, Let me tell you how I see it we all have choices in life that's why we live in a democratic country I have the choice to keep on dealing with the bullshit or the choice not to, in this case I choose not to, it is time for someone else to take over.

I am looking forward to Clan so see you guys on the water.

This was precisely the answer to the question originally asked after the posting of the results, and would have saved a few pages of ugly comments if it was answered back then ! Be that as it may,as I also said after the posting of these results.."If I am mistaken and barking up the wrong tree,my humblest apologies",and my statement still stands.
