Roy Wrote:Geez guys this was just a fun team event and has nothing to do with the season.
This was a fun team event, until R5000 got involved. Then it got serious and the teams were there not to just have a jol, which they did,but the real point was to get that prize.
But my question initially was 'why was the system of scoring not done as per KBT rules' ? I don't give a crap who won or who should have won,the minute money was taken to enter this event,it became serious business and some people, shame for them for not yet speaking up,have lost out.

Like I said I'm done so one of you better get hold of Andy and sort the season out I am a normal fisherman like you from about 20 min ago.

Looks like a bunch of bad losers :eusa_wall:

Well done to the winning team and the organizers, you made the right call by not running the 2nd day.

Was this the first Team Comp…Yes.
Was there some teething issues…Yes! No hiding that fact, its plane to see.
How are we going to solve them? Talk to the organisers NOT your mates. Don’t let it fester inside so you get all bent out of shape about it. This was meant to be a fun way to kick off the new season.
If you aren’t sure of something you should ask Roy or myself. You had how many weeks before this comp to ask?
You have a number of different ways to communicate with us. On this site, PM’s, whatsapp/sms, phonecall even email.
Im not always available to answer the phone but drop me a pm/sms/whatsapp/email and I will get back to you.

The weather call. Which is probably what most of you are upset about because we got it wrong. Would be interesting what the situation would be if the weather came what was predicted.

Ok I had one, ONE, guy the Monday after the comp complain/question the decision and I said I would chat to Roy about it, which I have.
This call was a unique one, a tough one as well. We used all what was available to us to make the correct call at the time being the weather forecast and local knowledge.
If this was a normal KBT we would have fished Sunday whatever the weather provided it wasn’t gale force winds. But because you are part of the team with some inexperienced guys it wasn’t fair to essentially force them on the water unlike in a normal KBT you could choose not to fish and only you suffer by not scoring any points.
It is also unique in that the dam was a good 30km+ away from where most of the guys were staying. Would you like to go through the mission of driving all the way there only to have the day called off or would you rather have woken up on Sunday to see the weatherman was wrong and you get to go have a fun day on the water.

At the end of the day Roy and I had to make a call for the safety of the competitors.

So you have to be there to be able to comment? Nice one congrats on smashing the fish, you would have been the first to complain had they run the event and something went wrong.

This event WAS planned months in advance. The current KBT rules apply.

I dont think you have the facts straight. The fact that the correct scoring system, which is out there for all to see and use,was not used and the 'bad losers' as you put it were deprived of what they should have got.

What I don't get,and the rest of us too,is that you had taken the right call on Sat to "make a call regarding the next day with all team captains and the organisors".The reason this has upset so many is the call to cancel the next day was taken before the end of fishing on the first day,and without any team captain being involved. You had the right method of deciding, but chose another. And then to rub salt into the wound, the next day was stunning,as was the fishing. There is only ONE way to make such a call, and that is on the day AT the venue like other comps. As an organisor of the KBT,you have to make certain call in your better judgement, but then there are others that have to be done democratically (why does Malema's face come into my mind right now ?).
Everything was in place...but something else was done.Don't get it.
Malcholm, seeing as this mess has resulted in you steering the KBT ship on your own right now,I will be happy to help where I can if you so require.

I would assume you would have to be there to at least take the decision.

Howzit Guys.

Firstly thanks to Roy and Malcolm for organising the event. Without these guys this comp wouldnt of been possible.

I apologise if the point system got mixed up and if some guys were confused. These are the type of things we can work on so we dont have these problems in the future. Lets try not point fingers guys but rather work together and discuss these things like men and fishing friends so that next comp is proper organised and everyone is happy. At the end of the day fishing is about having fun with friends and relaxing in the outdoors. Regarding Day 2 with the weather. The weather forcast was not looking good and i trust the organisers made the correct decision. Maybe in future we can have a meeting at the end of Day 1 to discuss these maters if ever happens again. But guys please remember Roy and Malcolm put alot effort into these comps. They also have day jobs to attend to and have ordinary daily lives. I think they have done a great job and tried there best to make everyone happy and run it the best they can. So lets thank these guys for what they have done and help them where we can. Roy has been very ill but has still taken out his time to make sure he could run things as best as he could this weekend and i personally thank him for that.

At the end of the day i just you guys to have fun and catch fish.

So lets start today on this thread.
If you have any complaints or suggestions to help the KBT please let us know.

Have a lekker day

Andy

Chaps, I know the moon is heading towards first quarter but you blokes would swear it's full moon and pms is in full swing as the female bass get ready to spawn......I digress, sorry.

Roy - I think you should sleep on your decision to pull out after all the confrontations today. Any set of rules should be backed up by that little clause "the organizers decision shall be final" and "grievance procedures are as follows.........".

I had a squizz through the forum leading up to this point of live fish. It would appear that nowhere was it ever stated that the existing KBT rules will differ from this event. That aside, it's always good to have a briefing / meeting of sorts as there have been and always will be guys at any fishing competition who say we didn't know.

It would be great if the group could ultimately say "we came to fish and not fight"! Once prizes instead of pride are up for grabs, clarity is of utmost importance.

Sorry for sticking my nose in but this thread has gone backwards so fast and which is totally unnecessary.

I have to disagree...if things are not adhered to as per the rules or the briefing,it is bound to cause tensions and comments and that is a good thing, because it brings the situation to where it should be...following the rules.Likewise,I agree with Andy that this fishing is something done for our enjoyment and winning is a bonus on top of a good outing. At every event, there should be a minimal briefing informing all there of the fishing times(they can change)number of anglers, prize money, any weather warnings etc etc.

Geez, rip I'm surprised you can even spell diplomatically..... Magic spell check you got.. :blue-biggrin:

My joke just to ease the situation, as Shane and I have been there in the early days when we started the Money Trail.

Go out and enjoy the outing as everybody is telling you and make the bonus of the prizes last and the company of fellow anglers foremost....

Running a competition is not easy and takes a lot of valuable freely donated hours by lots of people doing lots of work behind the scenes.. Give them credit where credit is due and after all they are only human and bound to stuff up at times and not please the majority. If there is a problem speak up as a unit straight away and don't let it fester. The person that does feel that there is cause to complain is quickly shot down in flames if he or she has no backing from fellow competitors whom at the time are also not happy, BUT are afraid to talk up for fear of upsetting a friend. WRONG, be man enough to help out and speak where you can in making the event and future events plain sailing....

My 2cents worth, cos there are not many people out there willing to spend time organising events such as these guys do for your pleasure.

Bergie.
