All you fundies out there please help. When i want to charge my 36V trolling motor batteries ( 3 x 12V connected in series) can i put a Ctek 12V charger on each of these batteries and charge them like that or must i disconnect the cables that connect the batteries in series before i do this. Would not like to blow 3 x CTEK chargers.

Does CTEK even make a 36v charger?

Perhaps you could consider re-wiring the charging station to put them all in parallel - then take into account the cumulative Ah size of all 3 and see if your charger can handle them all.

Buying 3 decent brand-name chargers is going to be a serious capital investment - unless you're name is Riprap!

Fishton - you're the man for this question!
Occasionally I use words I don't fully understand to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

The CTEK chargers can be connected to the battery permanently, with all their 220v leads connected together to a single plug.

This allows you to simply pull up an extension and plug in.

This is an installation I did a while ago for a customer with: 1 - 36V trolling motor supply, 2 - main cranking battery, 3 - separate supply for all the electronics.

John this is exactly what i had in mind. But if i understand you correctly i can use 1 x 12v charger permanetly connected on each of the 3 batteries and when i charge them i do not need to break connections between batteries. The chargers won't short out.

Sorry to distract but I have a question. Whilst you are sleeping and your batteries are charging, load shedding comes along and the charger doesn't automatically come back on when the power does. Now you sit with poor batteries the next day cos you didn't check! Do the more expensive chargers such as C-Tek and others automatically resume after load shedding?
