Good day all! I'm pretty new at bass fishing. Been fishing on and off for the last few years but it's never really "bitten" until the last couple of months. I think I have learned to chill more and enjoy "the hunt" instead of getting annoyed when I come up empty. It has definitely become my "therapy". Been fishing Kleinplasie lately. Caught a few nice size smallies and (accidentally) a few carp. I have had the most success with plastic frogs in the shallows around the reeds. Nothing like a top water strike! The water is so murky I think everything else basically needs to be dropped under the fishes' nose. I've seen plenty of "Papgooiers" around the dam but few bass fishermen. Anyone else fish here? There are plenty of bass here but they seem to be quite fussy. Not predictable at all. The murk probably has something to do with it too. I'm definitely looking for more venues in the Cape Town area to experiment and learn more.
I have recently got hold of an older Abu 6:4:1 bait caster which is my favorite toy at the moment. It's on a 7' Sensation Evolution. Been learning much on the forums today that I must try out. Well, that's a short "hello!" Thanks for all the excellent advice and a good welcoming forum!

Where is that Kleinplasie dam you spoke about? As far as I know the one I know of only has carp and trout in it.

Yah, I see on the forums the guys say that there are only trout and carp at Kleinplasie. I can say that I have most definitely caught bass here. We are talking about Kleinplasie at Jonkershoek? My first outing there I caught 2 small ones. Second outing I caught about a 1.8kg one.Green I might be but I know the difference between a bass and a carp. Some guys with thick glasses reckon the fry have come through the tunnels from Grabouw side.

Bass have been observed as eggs and fry clinging to waterfowl in an effort to relocate to new waters.............

I worked on the trout farm in Jonkershoek for a year when doing my Aquaculture course. When we were sorting out the trout in the cages there we used to have a line hanging in between the nets. Caught some really good size trout and one beast of a carp all on hand line.
Because they are constantly letting water out to feed the river the tunnel would feed the dam sometimes twice a day. Was quite a sight especially when I was on the cages.
I was told it came from Theewaterskloof. But Kleinplasie is a good dam for smallies, that water gets super clear.

Hi Southpaw,

The only time I have seen clear water here is at the river mouth. I think when they let the water out of the dam it lets the river clear the top part for a while, but it's not long before the murk encloses. The water varies by more than a meter over a morning sometimes. There are some very big carp here. I think the waste from the trout farm fattens them up. I caught a nice carp a couple of weekends back. How do you post pictures on this thing?
