Hi all, I I have never caught a small mouth bass. I have been trying for ages but just not my turn i suppose. I was fishing at clan william this weekend and caught a couple of good looking fish. The one i landed was reasonble and +- 1,5 kg. What i know about small mouth bass is that they are normally brown in colour. The one i caught was in between green and brown and had a tiny mouth for that size fish.

Is it possible that it was a small mouth even though it had some green in it?

Very difficult for us to respond without seeing a photo but if you look through the gallery it should give you some idea.

Smallmouth:

Largemouth:

The more I learn about fishing the more I realise
how much more I have to learn about fishing.

After having a look at the pick's i think it might have been a smallie. I hacv caught plenty of largmouth and was supprised when i saw how small the mouth was on this one.

I rememeber that the largmouths in clan william had a very distinct green colour and as i said this one was in the middle.

Thanks allot for the help.

O b.t.w got all the fish on a popper right through the day. Overcast weather with rain from time to time.

Smallmouth are usually more brown in colour.
Also you will notice the SMB has a continuous top fin whereas a LMB has a slight gap in the top fin.

Smallmouth also have fine teeth like projections on the tongue?

The best way to tell the difference is when you hook a Smallmouth it rips your arms off compared to the largie.
